Dev Ops for Ecommerce Agency

DevOps Engineer : Part Time We are an ecommerce agency delivering and supporting complex storefronts across Laravel, Adobe Commerce (Magento 2) and Shopify. We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer to join us on a part-time basis to own our development infrastructure, deployment pipelines and server estate. The role: You will be responsible for the infrastructure our development team builds on: standardised local environments, reliable CI/CD, and stable staging and production hosting. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who has run environments at scale and can bring structure and repeatability to an existing setup rather than simply maintaining it. Key responsibilities: -Design, build and document standardised local development environments for Laravel, Adobe Commerce and Shopify projects -Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines covering automated builds, testing, code quality checks and zero-downtime deployments with reliable rollback Provision, configure and harden cloud infrastructure across development, staging and production environments -Manage the LEMP/LAMP stack and supporting services: Nginx/Apache, PHP-FPM, MySQL/MariaDB, Redis, Varnish, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, cron and queue workers -Implement monitoring, alerting and centralised logging, and act on performance and capacity issues -Own backup, disaster recovery and SSL/certificate management -Maintain Git branching strategy, environment promotion and access control across the team -Support developers with environment issues, onboarding and release coordination Essential experience: -Proven experience building and maintaining large-scale, multi-project development environments -Strong CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines or Jenkins, and PHP deployment tooling such as Deployer -Docker and Docker Compose, including containerised local environments (Warden, DDEV, Laravel Sail or equivalent) -Solid Linux server administration and shell scripting (Bash) -Cloud platform experience — AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean, Hetzner or similar — covering compute, storage, managed databases, DNS and CDN -Adobe Commerce (Magento 2) infrastructure specifics: deployment modes, static content deployment, indexer and cron management, cache and Varnish configuration -Laravel deployment: queues, Horizon, scheduled tasks, Octane where applicable -Shopify tooling: Shopify CLI, theme deployment workflows and GitHub integration -Git in a multi-developer environment, including branching models and merge/release management -Clear written communication and the discipline to document what you build Desirable: -Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) -Adobe Commerce Cloud and Shopify Hydrogen/Oxygen -Cloudflare, WAF configuration and DDoS mitigation -Monitoring stacks such as New Relic, Grafana, -Prometheus or the ELK stack -Awareness of PCI DSS and GDPR obligations as they apply to ecommerce hosting -Experience in an agency or multi-client environment Working arrangement Part time, with flexibility over hours.
