Development of a Professional Men’s Hair Gel-Wax

We are Sempre Voce Cosméticos y Aromas Cía. Ltda., a cosmetics manufacturing company located in Ecuador. We are looking for an experienced cosmetic formulation chemist to develop a professional men’s hair gel-wax intended for sale through barbershops and specialized distributors. The objective is to combine the familiar hold of a hair gel with the styling flexibility, texture, and application benefits of a wax or styling cream. Desired product characteristics Medium-to-high, long-lasting hold. Good hairstyle control without making the hair completely stiff. Consistent gel-wax texture suitable for packaging in a jar. Easy to spread between the hands and distribute through the hair. No white residue, flaking, or visible buildup. No excessively sticky, greasy, or heavy feeling. Natural-to-medium shine, without an oily appearance. Some ability to reshape or lightly reactivate the hairstyle. Easy removal during normal washing. Pleasant, modern, and long-lasting masculine fragrance. Preferably alcohol-free, or formulated with a system that does not dry out the hair or scalp. A particularly important requirement is that the product should not leave a greasy or highly occlusive residue on the scalp. Some gel-waxes, pomades, and styling creams may be abandoned by consumers because they create excessive buildup, make the scalp feel oily, or may worsen the appearance of flaking in people who are prone to dandruff or seborrheic scalp conditions. We are not requesting a therapeutic anti-dandruff treatment. However, the formula should be designed to: Minimize oily or waxy buildup. Avoid excessive occlusion of the scalp. Rinse out easily. Avoid leaving residues that may contribute to visible flaking. Be suitable for frequent use. Avoid ingredients or combinations that unnecessarily increase scalp greasiness. Provide good styling performance without creating a heavy, suffocating sensation on the scalp. We would also like to incorporate a differentiated cosmetic benefit related to hydration, conditioning, and the appearance of stronger, healthier-looking hair. Panthenol, a conditioning polymer, a suitable humectant, or another appropriate ingredient may be considered, provided that it does not: Increase tackiness. Make the product greasy. create buildup. Significantly increase the cost. Interfere with hold or washability. At this stage, we are not seeking therapeutic, anti-hair-loss, anti-dandruff, or medical claims. The objective is to create a styling product that provides effective hold while leaving the hair looking conditioned, healthy, and well cared for. Raw-material requirements The formula should prioritize: Raw materials already available at our manufacturing facility. Ingredients regularly available in Ecuador or Latin America. Raw materials with reasonable minimum-order quantities. More than one possible supplier or technical substitute for critical ingredients. We would like to avoid exclusive materials, difficult imports, or ingredients that require purchasing unnecessarily large quantities. Before beginning the formulation, we will provide a list of the raw materials currently available at our facility. Expected deliverables The development should include: Complete formulation expressed in percentages. INCI name and commercial reference of each ingredient. Detailed manufacturing procedure and order of addition. Processing temperatures, mixing conditions, pH, and viscosity targets. Finished-product specifications. Suggested alternatives for critical raw materials. Technical support during the prototypes manufactured at our facility. At least two or three formulation adjustments based on prototype results. Initial stability and packaging-compatibility recommendations. Transfer of the final approved formula for commercial manufacturing by Sempre Voce. We are also interested in a modular formulation platform. After approving the initial medium-to-high hold product, we would like technical guidance on how it could later be converted into a stronger-hold version by adjusting no more than one or two components, rather than developing an entirely different formula.
