Early-career Python developer (AI-assisted) to build data integrations for a health-tech startup

We're a small, bootstrapped health-tech startup. We connect medical practices' software systems (scheduling, records, phone systems) into our platform, and we need help building those connections ("adapters"). You do NOT need to have worked with any specific medical software. Every system is different and undocumented — the job is figuring them out, not knowing them in advance. We pair developers with modern AI tools (Claude) and close review from a senior engineer, so we care far more about how you think than how many years you've shipped. What you'll do: - Read a vendor's API (often with poor or no docs), pull sample data, and write Python to map it into our standard format. - Match and reconcile records across systems where the "obvious" ID doesn't line up — and figure out *why* when it doesn't. - Use AI tools heavily, but verify their output against real data. We need someone who checks, not someone who trusts the first green checkmark. - Work from clear written specs; a senior engineer reviews everything. You're a great fit if you: - Write clean Python and are comfortable with SQL / relational data. - Use AI coding tools well AND know their failure modes. - Are curious, skeptical, and thorough — you'd rather find out than assume. - Communicate clearly in writing (most of our collaboration is async). Nice to have (not required): any exposure to REST APIs/OAuth, JSON, data pipelines, or healthcare data (HL7/FHIR). Early-career and current students welcome — we've had real success with thoughtful junior developers. This is a remote, hourly contract to start, with a small paid trial project first (synthetic data — no real patient information).
