Editorial Designer / Book Design Consultant for Large-Format Architecture Book I’m self-publishing a large-format architecture and home design book focused on residential design in California. The book is well underway, and I am handling the layout myself in Adobe InDesign. My background is in architecture-industry marketing and communications. I’m a capable but largely self-taught graphic designer, and I’m looking for an intermediate to expert graphic / editorial designer to provide a second set of eyes and potentially help refine the book’s typographic and layout. I would initially like to commission a paid diagnostic consisting of advance review, a 60-90-minute consultation and a concise written or annotated set of recommendations. Depending on the outcome, there may be a limited follow-up assignment implementing or supervising selected refinements. Reviewing representative spreads and the overall design system Review of the Cover alternatives Advising on font selection and hierarchy Pointing out leading, tracking, spacing, and alignment (starting with obvious major section titles) Suggesting practical improvements that I can apply throughout the book *Potentially* helping resolve a limited number of especially difficult spreads This is not a request to redesign the book from scratch. I’m looking for someone with strong taste, sound editorial judgment, and experience designing books, magazines, catalogs, or architecture publications. I may eventually expand this project into a small publishing imprint focused on architecture, housing, and urbanism, so there is potential for an ongoing working relationship with the right designer.
