Summary

Editorial Project Manager / Business Content Strategist Turn Big-Picture Ideas Into Clear, Polished, Finished Work I am looking for an experienced editorial project manager and business content strategist who is exceptionally good at taking large amounts of ideas, notes, reference materials, draft copy, and conversations and turning them into clear, organized, polished, finished deliverables. I am an experienced business owner and big-picture thinker developing BenefitShift, a modern employee-benefits advisory brand. I generate strong ideas and detailed content, but projects can become overly broad as I continue developing and improving them. I need a trusted editorial partner who can understand my vision, identify the strongest ideas, control scope, eliminate repetition, preserve approved messaging, and help bring projects across the finish line. This is not primarily a copywriting position, and I am not looking for someone to generate an endless stream of additional ideas. I need someone who can provide structure, editorial judgment, organization, and completion. Initial Project The first project will be consolidating and finalizing the core BenefitShift employer-facing website. The existing material includes: Approved and draft website copy Product and service descriptions Multiple versions of key messages Reference documents and research Website graphics and design concepts Notes from extensive strategy discussions Material designated for future versions Your job will be to organize this material into a controlled, coherent project and help produce one definitive Version 1. Responsibilities Listen to and understand complex, big-picture ideas Review notes, drafts, reference documents, and previous versions Identify the core message and intended outcome Organize scattered material into a logical structure Consolidate competing drafts into one strong working draft Remove repetition, unnecessary detail, and material that does not support the objective Distinguish approved content from drafts, alternatives, and future ideas Maintain an approved-content and decision log Protect completed work from unnecessary revisions Identify when a new idea would expand the agreed scope Place nonessential ideas into a future-development file Rewrite and polish business content while preserving my voice and intent Manage projects, milestones, decisions, and next actions in Asana Coordinate documents and source materials in Google Drive Lead regular Google Meet working sessions Help establish deadlines and definitions of “done” Take ownership of moving each deliverable toward completion The Ideal Candidate You may have experience as an: Editorial project manager Developmental editor Senior business writer or editor Content strategist Fractional chief of staff Executive communications specialist Consulting-firm writer or presentation specialist You should be someone who naturally creates clarity from complexity. You should be comfortable respectfully saying: “This belongs in Version 2.” “These sections are repetitive.” “This is the strongest version.” “This decision has already been made.” “We have enough information to finish.” “Here is what must happen next.” Required Qualifications Exceptional written and spoken English Strong developmental editing and business-writing ability Demonstrated experience organizing complex or fragmented source material Excellent judgment regarding structure, hierarchy, clarity, and scope Experience managing projects and approval workflows Proficiency with Asana, Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Meet Ability to work independently and recommend clear decisions Strong attention to detail and version control Comfortable working directly with a founder or business owner Available for some scheduled collaboration during U.S. Pacific Time Preferred Qualifications Based in the United States or Canada Experience with employee benefits, health insurance, healthcare, financial services, professional services, or B2B consulting Experience developing websites, white papers, executive reports, presentations, or thought-leadership content Familiarity with branding and coordinating written content with visual design Experience using AI responsibly to organize and refine content without producing generic or repetitive writing Direct employee-benefits experience is helpful but not mandatory. Exceptional editorial judgment, communication, organization, and follow-through are more important. What Success Looks Like Success means that: I can communicate ideas naturally without having to organize everything first. You can identify the central message and translate it into a clear structure. Approved language and decisions remain intact. New ideas are captured without continually expanding the current project. The working draft remains organized and authoritative. Projects result in polished, usable, completed deliverables. Working Arrangement Remote, ongoing freelance relationship Initial paid trial project Approximately 5–10 hours for the first trial assignment Potentially 10–15 hours per week after a successful trial Regular Google Meet calls Hourly range: $50–$85, depending on experience and demonstrated ability Paid Trial Assignment Selected candidates will receive a contained set of notes, draft content, approved messaging, and reference material. The assignment will be to: Identify the central message and intended audience. Create a clear document structure. Consolidate overlapping material. Produce a polished draft. Identify what should be removed or postponed. Explain the most important editorial decisions made. The trial is designed to evaluate judgment, clarity, organization, writing ability, and the ability to finish—not simply the amount of content produced. Please Include in Your Proposal Describe a project in which you transformed a large amount of disorganized material into a finished deliverable. Explain how you distinguish between essential content and good ideas that should be postponed. Provide two or three relevant samples, preferably showing business, consulting, website, report, or executive content. Describe your experience working directly with founders or big-picture thinkers. Describe your experience with Asana and Google Drive. State your location, time zone, availability, and hourly rate. Explain how you would prevent a project from continually expanding after its scope has been approved. Please begin your proposal with the phrase “Clarity to Completion” so I know you read the complete posting.
