Email Marketing Specialist — Exceptional Writer & Data-Driven Marketer
Worldwide
About Stan Winston School of Character Arts Stan Winston School of Character Arts is an online educational platform dedicated to teaching the art and techniques of character creation. Our courses feature world-class artists and industry professionals working in practical effects, creature creation, makeup effects, sculpture, fabrication, puppetry, animatronics and related disciplines. We have a large global audience and an established customer and email database built over many years. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We’re looking for an experienced Email Marketing Specialist for an ongoing, part-time relationship. This is not a general digital marketing position. We want someone who genuinely loves email marketing and considers it a core specialty. You should be both creative and highly data-driven — someone who thinks about segmentation, automation, testing, engagement, conversion and continually improving performance. Exceptional Writing Ability Is Essential EXCEPTIONAL WRITTEN ENGLISH IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS POSITION. You must be an excellent English-language writer with a command of grammar, tone, nuance and persuasive marketing copy. Your writing should sound natural, polished and professional to a U.S. audience. Strong email marketing skills alone are not sufficient for this position. Strong writing skills alone are not sufficient either. We need someone who excels at both. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING • Write compelling promotional and educational emails in our established brand voice • Plan and execute email marketing campaigns • Develop and improve automated email sequences and customer journeys • Segment our audience and identify opportunities within our existing database • Conduct meaningful A/B tests • Analyze open rates, click-through rates, conversions, revenue and other performance metrics • Use data to continually improve campaign performance • Identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention and conversion • Help maintain and organize our email lists • Develop strategies for re-engaging inactive subscribers and customers We currently use Mailchimp, so significant Mailchimp experience is preferred. WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR You should have: • Significant hands-on email marketing experience • Exceptional English-language writing and copywriting ability • Strong understanding of email automation and customer journeys • Experience with segmentation and audience targeting • Experience designing and interpreting A/B tests • Strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in performance data • Experience using email marketing metrics to make decisions • Ability to understand and maintain an established brand voice • Strong attention to detail • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a small team This is intended to be an ongoing relationship, not a one-time project. REQUIRED APPLICATION QUESTIONS Please answer each question. Generic proposals that do not address these questions will not be considered. 1. Tell us about one email campaign or automation you personally managed that produced a measurable improvement. What did you change, why did you change it, and what were the results? Please provide actual metrics when possible. 2. What email marketing platforms have you worked with extensively? Please specifically describe your experience with Mailchimp, if applicable. 3. Describe an A/B test you personally designed or managed. What did you test, what was the result, and what did you learn? 4. Please provide 2–3 examples of marketing emails that you personally wrote. We’re particularly interested in seeing your ability to write persuasive, natural English-language copy. 5. Imagine you joined an established online education company with a large customer and email database. What are the first three things you would want to analyze or investigate? A NOTE ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS Please do not use AI to write your responses to the application questions. Exceptional written English is an important requirement for this position, and we want to evaluate your personal writing ability and natural voice. Candidates who advance in the process may be asked to complete a short paid writing exercise.
