Embedded Firmware Engineer — Sensorless FOC / Current-Sensing Prototype (BLDC Motor)

Early-stage hardware project seeking an embedded firmware engineer for a narrow, well-defined proof-of-concept. The task: Build a firmware prototype on an STM32 (Nucleo) or TI DRV-based dev board that demonstrates current-sensing stall/resistance detection on a BLDC motor — no load cell or physical force sensor. What we need to see: - Real-time current draw monitored via low-side shunt resistor - Sensorless FOC (or well-tuned trapezoidal control) estimating torque/resistance from Back-EMF + current - A clear demo (video or logged data) showing the system can distinguish low resistance from high resistance in real time - Bonus: basic damping/response behavior if current spikes rapidly (simulating hitting an obstruction) Important: We want an honest technical read, not a forced result. If sensorless current-sensing proves unreliable for this use case, tell us early and clearly — that's as valuable to us as a working demo. Don't force accuracy at the cost of an honest signal. Scope/timeline: 2-4 weeks, fixed-scope proof-of-concept (not ongoing production firmware). Ideal background: Motor control / BLDC / FOC experience, STM32 or TI motor-control ecosystem familiarity, comfortable working from a short spec independently.
