English Proofreader (U.S. Market) - Pet Loss Book

We are looking for a detail-oriented English proofreader to review and polish a pet loss book for the U.S. market. The content is emotionally sensitive, so we're looking for someone who can preserve the tone, empathy, and meaning while ensuring the text is grammatically correct, natural, and engaging for native U.S. English readers. Responsibilities Proofread and edit English text for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency. Improve readability, clarity, and flow while preserving the author's voice and intended message. Ensure the content sounds natural for a U.S. audience. Maintain consistency in terminology, style, and formatting throughout the manuscript. Preserve the emotional tone and accuracy of pet loss and memorial content. Deliver high-quality work within agreed deadlines. Requirements Native U.S. English speaker. Proven experience proofreading or editing books, manuscripts, or long-form content. Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to work with emotionally sensitive material while maintaining the author's voice. Strong communication skills and reliability in meeting deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience proofreading books, memoirs, or self-help content. Experience with pet loss, grief, or memorial-related topics. Experience refining AI-assisted or AI-generated content. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style or other professional editing standards is a plus. Project Details Freelance project with the potential for ongoing collaboration. The current manuscript is approximately 70 pages. The work will be delivered in smaller batches, not as one complete manuscript. Additional proofreading projects may become available.
