Environmental Graphic Designer – Office Wall Mural + Stair Riser Graphics

We are seeking an experienced environmental / experiential graphic designer to develop custom interior graphics for the offices of UniteWI (https://www.unitewi.org/), a Milwaukee-based community health organization. UniteWI serves as a bridge between communities, health providers, and resources, with a focus on improving health outcomes and quality of life. The architectural layout and locations for the graphics have already been established. We are looking for a designer to take the project from the current design direction through finished, production-ready artwork for large-format installation. Current scope includes: One large feature wall graphic within the office Custom graphics for the stair risers Coordination of the visual language between both installations Final artwork prepared for production by a commercial graphics/sign installer Architectural elevations and dimensions identifying the graphic locations will be provided. Design Direction The client would like the space to feel warm, inviting, professional, clean, and community-focused. This is an administrative office frequently visited by community partners, so the graphics should feel mature and polished rather than overly playful or busy. UniteWI's orange should remain a primary brand color, but the client does not want an excessively bright orange environment. We would like to introduce complementary warm earth tones and softer colors to create a welcoming interior. The graphic design should communicate themes such as: Empowering community Community health Health equity Economic development Serving and connecting the community "The Bridge to Community Health" For the feature wall, we are interested in exploring a layered composition that may incorporate community/family photography, color overlays or translucent effects, typography, and organizational messaging. The client previously discussed imagery appearing behind a color layer with words or messaging integrated over the composition. For the stair graphics, an earlier word-cloud concept felt too bold and visually busy. We are looking for a cleaner, more sophisticated approach with a strong horizontal rhythm that works naturally across the individual stair risers. Typography, short phrases, graphic patterns, or a combination of these may be considered. The overall environment should feel visually complete without covering every surface or relying on large quantities of photographs. What We Will Provide Architectural PDF with the exact graphic locations and dimensions UniteWI logos and available brand assets Organization website and messaging for reference Client-provided photographs/community imagery as available Design feedback and architectural coordination Expected Deliverables We anticipate the selected designer will provide: Initial design concepts for the feature wall and stair graphics Approximately 2-3 coordinated visual directions for review Revisions based on client/architect feedback Final approved artwork applied to the architectural elevations/mockups Production-ready vector and/or high-resolution files suitable for large-format vinyl/wall graphic fabrication Editable source files, preferably Adobe Illustrator Final PDF/EPS/AI or other formats required by the selected graphics installer Reasonable coordination with the installer regarding scale, panel breaks, bleed, resolution, and production requirements Ideal Candidate We are especially interested in designers with experience in environmental graphics, branded interiors, experiential design, murals, wayfinding, large-format graphics, or architectural signage. Please include examples of projects showing: Large-format wall graphics or murals Branded workplace/interior environments Stair graphics or unconventional graphic applications Typography integrated with photography or architectural spaces Production-ready artwork prepared for commercial installation Strong Adobe Illustrator skills and an understanding of designing artwork at architectural scale are important. This is not simply a logo or poster design project. The selected designer should be comfortable developing graphics that respond to the dimensions, proportions, sightlines, and physical conditions of an interior architectural space.
