Our team is hosting a one-time group review session to evaluate a batch of student college essays. We're looking for experienced reviewers (former admissions readers, English/writing educators, college counselors, or admissions coaches) to bring a critical, standards-based eye to the table. Your live feedback during this session will be recorded and used to help train and calibrate an internal writing-review tool — so precision, consistency, and clear reasoning matter more than usual. What You'll Do: Join a live video call to review 5–8 real (anonymized) student essays and be prepared to verbally walk through your assessment of each essay as well as putting detailed notes together on the documents themselves Respond to follow-up/clarifying questions from the facilitator during the session Session will be recorded for internal use only Required Prep (Before the Call): You'll be sent a prep packet 3–5 business days in advance. It includes: Our team's Essay Evaluation Standards— drawn from our internal writing guide, covering: The "show, don't tell" principle Voice authenticity and avoiding "safe"/generic writing Evidence of growth, transformation, or a strong point of view Alignment with core traits admissions officers look for (per Harvard's disclosed admissions criteria: humor, sensitivity, grit, leadership, integrity, helpfulness, courage, kindness) and the College Board's three benchmarks (unique perspective, strong writing, authentic voice) The prep will be paid Logistics: Format: Live video call on Zoom, recorded Time commitment: [1 hour of prep] + [2 hours for the live session] Date/Time: [Thursday 8/27 2-4pm CST] Compensation: [$60/ Hour] Confidentiality: All essays are held in compliance with our Privacy Policy; reviewers must agree not to share, copy, or discuss materials outside of this engagement Ideal Reviewer Background: Former admissions reader, high school English teacher, writing tutor, or college counselor Comfortable giving direct, articulate, criteria-based verbal feedback No AI/tech background required — we just need your expert eye
