Title: Public Records Researcher for True Crime & Police Documentary YouTube Channel We are looking for an experienced public-records researcher to help research real-world criminal and police incidents for a YouTube documentary channel. The researcher will identify compelling cases using legally available public information and public-records processes, then organize the available documents and video evidence into a clear research package for our production team. Types of stories we cover: Homicide and criminal investigations Major arrests and investigations Police incidents and pursuits Drug-related criminal cases DUI/DWI incidents Missing-person and kidnapping cases Juvenile/teen criminal cases Other unusual or high-interest criminal cases Responsibilities: Find interesting cases with strong storytelling potential. Research the incident using legitimate public sources. Identify the relevant government agency and available public records. Submit and track lawful public-records requests when appropriate. Locate publicly released video, reports, 911 audio, court records, and other relevant material. Create organized case summaries and timelines for our production team. Experience Required We are only interested in researchers with proven experience in this niche. You should have: 1+ year of experience researching true crime, police, or public-records content. Experience working with multiple YouTube channels or documentary creators. Demonstrated experience obtaining and researching public records. Strong research, organization, and communication skills. Please include proof of previous work with your application. Send: YouTube channels you've worked with. 3–5 videos you personally researched or contributed to. Links to those videos and their public view counts. Your specific role in each project. Examples of your previous public-records research experience. We are not looking for someone who is learning this field. We want someone who can start immediately and already understands how this type of research works. I would not use "FOIA Researcher for Bodycam Footage" as the title on the repost. I'd use "Public Records Researcher for True Crime & Police Documentary YouTube Channel." That makes the actual professional deliverable much clearer and avoids making the job sound like it's connected to weapons or tactical operations. Also, don't try to disguise the job or circumvent Upwork's rules—the goal should be an accurate description that makes clear you're requesting lawful public-records research and documentary production work. Upwork specifically says job posts need to comply with its rules and applicable laws.
