Responsibilities include redesigning the website layout, improving user experience, and ensuring the design a# Figma UI/UX Designer Required – Heritage Railway Website Redesign Bennett Brook Railway is seeking an experienced UI/UX designer to create a modern, visitor-focused website design in Figma. The existing website is being developed in Ruby on Rails by our current developer. This role is for the visual and user-experience design only. The successful designer will create clear, polished, responsive Figma designs that can be handed directly to the Rails developer for implementation. ## About Bennett Brook Railway Bennett Brook Railway is a heritage railway located within Whiteman Park in Perth, Western Australia. The railway is operated by volunteers and provides heritage train rides, special events, group visits, birthday-party coach hire, railway-history interpretation and preservation activities. We want the website to feel like a professional heritage tourism attraction rather than a basic community or industrial website. The design should be inspired by the clarity, photography, visitor journeys and presentation quality of leading heritage railway websites such as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, while retaining Bennett Brook Railway’s own identity. This is not a request to copy another website. ## Project objectives The new design should: * Make it immediately clear what Bennett Brook Railway offers * Encourage visitors to plan a visit * Present fares, operating times and location information clearly * Promote events, school-holiday services and special experiences * Promote Party Coach hire and group bookings * Showcase locomotives, rolling stock, stations and railway history * Support volunteering, membership, donations and future online shopping * Work effectively across desktop, tablet and mobile devices * Be easy for our existing Ruby on Rails developer to implement ## Initial design scope We would like Figma designs for the following: 1. Homepage 2. Plan Your Visit page 3. Timetable and Fares page 4. What’s On or Events page 5. Individual event page 6. Party Coach and Group Bookings page 7. Collection overview page 8. Individual locomotive or collection-item page 9. Volunteer or Support Us page 10. Contact and enquiry form page 11. Desktop navigation and mobile navigation 12. Footer and supporting website components The homepage is expected to include: * Operating-status banner * Main navigation * Large photographic hero section * Clear visitor calls to action * Operating hours, fares, location and accessibility information * Upcoming event cards * Party Coach and group-booking promotion * Collection preview * Volunteer, donate and shop pathways * Contact information and footer ## Required deliverables The final package should include: * Desktop and mobile Figma designs * Tablet layouts where necessary * Reusable Figma components * Typography, colour and spacing system * Button, form, navigation and card styles * Image-placement guidance * Interactive prototype for key visitor journeys * Developer-ready Figma handoff * Reasonable revisions following feedback * A short handover discussion with the Ruby on Rails developer ## Design direction The preferred visual direction is: * Modern heritage-tourism presentation * Strong use of authentic Bennett Brook Railway photography * Clear, welcoming and family-friendly * Dark heritage green, warm neutral tones and restrained gold accents * Strong visual hierarchy * Generous spacing * Clear calls to action * Accessible typography and colour contrast * Professional without appearing overly corporate The official Bennett Brook Railway logo and supplied heritage design standards must be used exactly as provided. The logo, locomotive artwork and historical elements must not be redrawn, modernised or reinterpreted without approval. ## Important project requirements Applicants must understand that: * The existing website uses Ruby on Rails * The appointed designer will not be required to build or code the website * Designs must be practical for implementation by the existing developer * The project requires responsive web design, not only a desktop homepage image * All supplied BBR branding and historical references must be followed accurately * Placeholder stock photography may be used during early design stages, but final layouts must be suitable for genuine BBR images ## Preferred experience We would particularly like to hear from designers with experience in: * Tourism or visitor attractions * Museums, heritage organisations or not-for-profit organisations * Figma website design systems * Responsive UI/UX design * Developer handoff * Content-heavy websites * Event, ticketing, booking or ecommerce user journeys Experience working with Ruby on Rails developers would be helpful but is not essential. ## Application requirements Please provide: * A brief introduction * Relevant website or Figma portfolio examples * Examples of desktop and mobile design work * Your proposed approach to the project * Estimated timeframe * Fixed-price quotation or hourly rate * Number of revision rounds included * Confirmation that editable Figma source files will be supplied * Confirmation that Bennett Brook Railway will own the completed design work Please identify which parts of your portfolio you personally designed. Generic applications without relevant portfolio examples are unlikely to be considered. ## Location Remote designers are welcome to apply. Designers based in Perth or elsewhere in Australia are preferred, although strong international applicants will also be considered. ## Project ownership All final Figma files, components, design specifications and approved design assets must be supplied to Bennett Brook Railway and remain accessible to the organisation after project completion. ligns with our brand identity.
