Finalize InDesign Manuscript

Summary

We need assistance finalizing a 550-page InDesign manuscript for a book that must be delivered, camera ready, to our publisher Wiley by August 28. The manuscript is 90% drawn and laid out in InDesign already, and the remaining 75 pages or so are being added (also in Indesign) during the next 3 weeks. We’re now looking for someone who can do final-round editing, within the Indesign package already done. Specifically the job would involve tasks like, - changing words or adding or deleting punctuation, within a text box - Changing words within a title on a specific page. - Moving full pages from one page to another. - Search and replace specific words that, for example, need to be italicized or have a lower case first letter replaced with an upper case first letter. - Changing the “paragraph space after. . .” spacing from, say, 8 to 6 in order to accommodate the vertical height of a given paragraph on within a given textbox. -A variety of other edits that are at the same degree of skill. Our requirements in order of priority are: Necessary: They have to know what they’re doing well enough that their skill set is entirely 100% adequate to manage tasks like those above. Necessary: They need up-to-date hardware so we can move large folders back and forth (hopefully in Dropbox) without huge time lags. Necessary: The person who does this work must be able and willing to do this work on Zoom in real-time, so that the two co-authorscan not only direct that person but also be able to watch in real-time to be sure the changes are made perfectly. There will be a lot of these doodad changes, many of which won’t turn up until the final proofreading and it would be overwhelming for us to take the time to translate what we discover into the language needed by the InDesign person, and it would consume too much time we don’t have, to proofread that person’s work later and then send them more emails to tell them what to adjust and then find time to check that, too. Preferably: the person’s time zone is either Eastern or Central or Mountain time. Preferably: the hours the person can work are not limited to evening time, unless they can also spend a significant chunk of time on Sunday August 2, and the Saturday / Sundays after that. Our quirks are: We don’t know how to do InDesign but we are fussy about the details of the layout. Every one of our 550+ pages is built in Illustrator, which means we know a lot about point size and text specifications, etc. We already have an hour or two worth of simple fixes to make, and the number of fixes will grow in mid-August. We’d really like to take care of those fixes on a Zoom call next Sunday afternoon if possible, or August 2 or 3. That would also let us and the InDesigner to get to know one another, to make sure the relationship chemistry is reasonably good. We expect the heaviest load, perhaps 4-8 hours, to occur between August 21-28, which is when the final proof-reads by 3 separate readers will be completed.
