We are an established consumer products company looking for an experienced household cleaning formulation chemist to develop a new dry-format cleaning product. We are seeking someone with practical, commercial formulation experience who can take a product from initial concept through formulation, prototype development, testing, refinement, and eventual manufacturing transfer. This is not simply a request for a theoretical formula. We want a working, commercially viable formulation and physical product samples that we can test ourselves. More detailed information regarding the intended product, performance requirements, and application will be shared privately with selected candidates. Scope of Work The selected chemist will be expected to: Develop a dry household cleaning formulation based on our requirements. Select appropriate raw materials and ingredient ratios. Optimize the formula for cleaning performance, stability, handling, and consumer usability. Prepare laboratory or bench-scale prototypes. Conduct appropriate initial testing and make formulation adjustments as necessary. Recommend suitable raw-material specifications. Develop a practical manufacturing and blending procedure. Establish appropriate finished-product specifications and quality-control parameters. Recommend appropriate performance, stability, and shelf-life testing. Provide guidance regarding relevant U.S. household cleaning product regulatory and labeling requirements. Assist with eventual scale-up and transfer to a commercial manufacturer if needed. Required Deliverables The project should result in: A complete quantitative formulation expressed in percentages by weight. Full identification of ingredients and recommended raw-material specifications. Manufacturing and blending instructions. Recommended order of addition and any important processing requirements. Finished-product specifications and suggested quality-control parameters. Recommended stability and performance testing procedures. Physical prototype samples of the developed product for our evaluation. Shipment of the agreed-upon prototype samples to our designated location. Formula revisions based on our evaluation and testing. Additional prototype samples following significant revisions when necessary. A finalized formulation package that can be transferred to an independent third-party manufacturer. Ideal Candidate We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in: Household cleaning product formulation. Dry or solid-format chemical products. Commercial cleaning chemistry. Surfactants, builders, chelating agents, and related cleaning technologies. Physical-property and stability optimization. Bench-scale prototype development. Product performance testing. Commercial scale-up and manufacturing transfer. Access to appropriate laboratory facilities and the ability to prepare and ship physical prototype samples is required. Experience developing products that have successfully progressed from laboratory formulation to commercial production is strongly preferred. Confidentiality This project involves confidential product-development information. Detailed product specifications will be shared only with selected candidates, and the selected chemist may be required to sign an NDA before receiving the complete project brief. Formula Ownership We need full access to the formulation developed specifically for this project. The final deliverables must include the complete quantitative formula, process information, and technical information necessary for the product to be independently manufactured by a third-party manufacturer of our choosing. We are not looking for a formulation that depends on an undisclosed proprietary premix or ingredient system that prevents independent manufacturing. When Applying Please provide: A short overview of your relevant formulation experience. Examples of household or consumer cleaning products you have formulated. Your experience developing dry-format products. Whether you have access to laboratory facilities. Confirmation that you can prepare and ship physical prototype samples. Your experience taking formulations from bench scale through commercial manufacturing. Confirmation that you can provide a complete quantitative formula and manufacturing procedure as part of the final deliverables. Your estimated timeline for initial formulation and first-round prototype samples. We are looking for a chemist who can help us develop a real, testable, commercially manufacturable product, rather than simply provide general formulation recommendations.
