Fractional Controller / Accounting Clerk (Construction Industry – Remote, Embedded Role)

Location: Remote Engagement: Ongoing (20–30 hrs/month to start, scalable) Compensation: Competitive / Based on Experience ABOUT US We are a fast-growing field operations and labor services company supporting construction projects across Ohio. Our work is fast-paced and operationally demanding, requiring accurate, responsive, and well-organized financial systems to support decision-making, compliance, and growth. We operate lean internally and are looking to build a long-term relationship with a individual/firm who can serve as both a compliance partner and a steady financial backbone to the business. ROLE OVERVIEW We are seeking a professional (individual or boutique firm) to take ownership of core accounting and tax functions. This is not just a bookkeeping role—we’re looking for someone who can ensure our financials are accurate, compliant, and aligned with the realities of a growing construction-focused business. You should be comfortable working directly with ownership, operating independently, and bringing structure to a fast-moving environment. SCOPE OF WORK Bookkeeping & Financial Management - Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks - Review, clean up, and properly categorize financial records - Keep documentation organized and audit-ready Reconciliation & Reporting - Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations - Deliver monthly financials (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) - Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively Payroll Support (Processing & Oversight) - Accurately generate payroll report on a bi-weekly basis - Enter and process payroll data within QuickBooks - Ensure accuracy based on internal time tracking - Review for discrepancies prior to processing - Maintain organized payroll records - Support a workforce of approximately 150–200 employees Invoicing & Accounts Receivable - Build, review, and submit client invoices - Own the invoicing process end-to-end - Track receivables and follow up on outstanding balances - Identify underpayments, discrepancies, and billing issues - Keep AR clean, organized, and up to date Advisory & Business Support - Provide insight on financial performance and trends - Support basic forecasting and planning discussions External Coordination & Financial Projects - Serve as the point of contact for our clients in all invoice or project control matters - Serve as a point of contact for tax advisors, attorneys, and other financial professionals - Assist with compliance-related documentation and requests - Investigate and organize financial issues requiring follow-up - Support occasional ad hoc financial or administrative projects QUALIFICATIONS - Credentialed Financial Professional - Experience with construction or field service businesses (strongly preferred) - Strong QuickBooks proficiency - Experience with multi-project environments and sales tax compliance - Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail - Clear, consistent communication with business ownership IDEAL FIT You’re someone who: - Takes ownership and doesn’t need to be managed closely - Keeps financial systems clean, organized, and reliable - Is proactive, responsive, and solution-oriented - Is comfortable stepping into complexity and bringing clarity Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with someone who can grow with the business and provide both stability and clarity on the financial side.
