Freelance Subtitle Quality Check Editor (English Subtitles) – Christian Streaming Platform

Summary: We are a fast-growing European Christian streaming platform looking for freelancers to review and correct English subtitles for our movies and series. Most content has English as its original spoken language, and English subtitles already exist, your job is not to translate from scratch, but to quality-check and correct existing subtitle files so they are linguistically accurate, correctly timed, and compliant with our subtitling guidelines. You'll work in Subtitle Edit (Windows), matching subtitle text and timing against the audio/video. What You'll Do: • Watch the film/episode in Subtitle Edit with the existing English subtitle file loaded • Identify lines of text or scenes that might be controversial or inappropriate for our Christian audience • Correct any text that doesn't match exactly what's said on screen (dialogue accuracy) • Adjust timestamps so subtitles appear/disappear in sync with speech • Check and fix line length, reading speed, and formatting according to our guidelines • Flag anything you're unsure about (e.g. unclear audio, ambiguous phrasing) • Deliver the corrected file in SRT. You'll receive our full subtitling guidelines document once you start, covering formatting, line length, reading speed, and other technical requirements. Requirements: • Familiarity with Christian values • C1 level of English (reading, writing and comprehension) • Own licensed copy of Subtitle Edit, or willingness to use the free version for Windows. • Flexible availability: Able to respond and pick up rush assignments on short notice when needed • Able to work independently, follow detailed style guides, and meet deadlines • Strong attention to detail (this is precision QC work, not creative translation) • Previous experience in subtitle review, QC, or subtitling is a plus • Experience with translation is a plus but not required for this role Access & Tools: • We'll provide: the video file or streaming link, the existing English subtitle file, and our style guide • You'll need: Subtitle Edit installed on your own device Time & Workflow • Estimated time: ~8 hours per regular-length film, ~3 hours per regular-length episode • Deadlines vary per assignment: you'll typically get around a week per film/episode, though occasional rush assignments may come with a shorter deadline (as little as 2 days). We'll always be clear about the deadline upfront when we send you the assignment. Process: 1. Paid test film, used to assess quality and fit 2. If successful, you'll move into ongoing batches of films/episodes, working independently. We expect delivered work to consistently meet our quality standards. Payment & Terms: • Fixed price per film/episode, based on duration (not hours worked) • Payment via Upwork • Long-term, recurring collaboration possible for the right fit. Volume varies with our content pipeline, busy periods may mean 4–5 films/episodes per week, quieter periods 1 or fewer. To Apply, Please Include: 1.
