An emerging Miami-based womenswear label, is looking to connect with an experienced freelance pattern maker and sample maker for occasional, project-based womenswear development. I am specifically looking for an independent professional who can take an existing professionally drafted pattern, block, or high-quality commercial pattern as a starting point, make thoughtful design modifications, and cut and sew a polished final sample. Projects will generally involve developing and sewing one sample at a time with the potential for an ongoing relationship as the collection grows. Ideal experience * Professional womenswear pattern making and pattern modification * Sample making from existing patterns or blocks * Translating sketches, reference images, and written direction into pattern adjustments * Dresses, tops, skirts, gowns and separates * Silk charmeuse, crepe, brocade, faille and other delicate or specialty fabrics * Fully lined garments * Invisible zippers and refined closures * Clean, high-end interior construction * Understanding of fit, proportion and garment balance * Hand finishing and elevated construction techniques where appropriate Experience with French seams, bound/Hong Kong seams, silk linings, hand finishing, and other luxury or couture-inspired construction techniques is especially welcome. I am NOT looking for a factory or mass-production service. I am interested in finding an experienced independent pattern/sample maker who enjoys working on individual garments and can collaborate directly with a designer. Projects may vary in complexity. Some may require only minor changes to an established pattern before sewing the sample, while others may involve more substantial pattern modification. Scope and pricing would be agreed upon before beginning each project. I am based in Miami and would especially welcome applicants in South Florida, but I am open to experienced professionals throughout the United States. Patterns, fabrics, linings, trims, and other materials can be shipped when necessary. When applying, please include: * Your location * A brief description of your professional pattern-making and sample-making experience * Photos or portfolio examples of garments you have personally patterned and/or sewn * Examples of higher-end womenswear, if available * Your experience working with silk and other delicate fabrics * Whether you work from existing patterns/blocks and are comfortable modifying them * Your typical pricing structure for pattern modification and one-off sample making * Whether you are comfortable receiving fabrics, patterns, and trims by mail I am ultimately hoping to develop a relationship with a skilled independent professional who can become a trusted resource for future Alexis Hart Studios projects.
