Summary

Full-Stack Developer / Ongoing Technical Partner — Part-Time About us We're a profitable rideshare vehicle rental fleet (~40 Toyota hybrids) operating in Chicago and Los Angeles. Over the past several months we've been building an internal operations platform from scratch — a suite of self-contained web modules covering fleet management, driver applications, maintenance, telematics, collections, contracts, and more. We're now looking for a hands-on developer to take ownership of this build, ship new pieces of it quickly, and help us bring in specialists for the pieces that need deeper expertise. This is an ongoing, part-time role — not a one-off project, and not limited to a fixed scope. We're looking for an ongoing technical partner, not a contractor who completes a project and moves on. As we layer on new functionality, connect more vehicles, and grow the platform into a full fleet management system, you'll be the person continually building, refining, and debugging it, and generally available to help with whatever technical needs come up — monitoring, fixing, and improving things as an ongoing responsibility, not a series of tickets. You're not expected to be an expert at everything — but you do need the maturity and project management experience to recognize when something is better outsourced to a specialist, and to manage that handoff well. We're also thinking beyond our own internal use: where it makes sense, we'd like features built with an eye toward future scalability and a mobile customer-facing app, so the platform could eventually extend beyond a single fleet rather than being built only for our immediate needs. What you'd be stepping into • A working prototype: a single self-contained fleet management dashboard (~6,000+ lines) merging eleven modules — Task Board, Driver Applications, Telematics/Driver Scoring, Maintenance & Reminders, Contract Management, Vehicle Onboarding, Parts Ledger, Condition Reports, Users & Permissions, Repair Bay Console, and Violations/Transfer-of-Liability. • A consistent design system and architecture (navy/signal-orange/warm-paper palette, no CDN dependencies, localStorage used as an Airtable placeholder with clear migration seams). • A defined integration map (Telematics → Maintenance work orders, Applications → Contracts, Onboarding → Fleet/Task Board, Collections → device-based starter disable) and a vendor stack already selected • Early-stage plans for an AI agent layer (Collections, Maintenance, Onboarding agents) that this platform is meant to support. You're not starting from a blank page, but you are turning a founder-built prototype into a real, maintained system. What you'd own • Continually manage, build, and debug the platform as we layer on new functionality, connect more vehicles, and grow it into a full fleet management system — this is an ongoing job, not a series of one-off tickets. • Be available for whatever technical work comes up — this role isn't limited to a fixed list of tasks; if it's technical and we need it, you're the person we turn to. • Build with future scalability in mind — where practical, architect features so they could extend beyond our single fleet down the line, not just solve today's internal need. Be the lead on the customer-facing mobile application. • Connect APIs: Stripe payments, DocuSign signing, Quo/OpenPhone SMS-WhatsApp, telematics hardware (Queclink + Traccar), and others as they come online. You should be genuinely comfortable reading API docs and wiring up REST integrations on your own. • Migrate the platform off the localStorage prototype onto a real backend (Airtable to start, with an eye toward a proper database as we scale). • Help build the driver-facing app (React) that connects to the same backend as the staff dashboard. • Scope and help hire specialists for projects outside your core strengths — e.g., someone who specializes in telematics hardware, or another niche skill a given project needs. You'd help write the brief, vet candidates, and manage the handoff so the work integrates cleanly with the rest of the platform. • Own vendor and API relationships directly: communicate with companies like the telematics provider, Smartcar, and other API/service partners, including reaching out to their technical support to resolve integration issues — with minimal need for us to get involved. • Manage projects end-to-end: take a brief description of a project and its goal, turn that into a plan, and execute it without needing close oversight or hand-holding along the way. • Build AI agent systems on top of the platform (e.g., for collections, maintenance, and onboarding workflows) as it matures, using AI-assisted ("vibe coding") development to move quickly. Who we're looking for • Strong at REST APIs and integration work — this is one of the most important skills for the role, since a lot of the job is connecting third-party services together. • Full-stack coding ability (React/JS front end, comfortable with a backend like Airtable's API). • Comfortable "vibe coding" with AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to move fast, and able to design and build AI agent systems on top of the platform — this is a core part of where the platform is headed, not a nice-to-have. • Fast and pragmatic: comfortable shipping working versions quickly rather than over-engineering, then iterating. • Comfortable working with a non-technical founder: translating "I need X" into the right technical approach, and flagging a better way when one exists. • Solid project management instincts — able to take a short brief (what we're trying to accomplish, not a detailed spec) and run with it, keeping the project on track without needing frequent check-ins to move forward. • Confident communicating directly with outside companies and their technical support teams to get integrations working (e.g., a telematics hardware vendor, Smartcar) — this should happen without us needing to be looped in on every exchange. • Some judgment on when a task needs outside expertise, and enough of a network or resourcefulness to help find and vet that person (e.g., a telematics specialist for hardware integration work). You don't need to be an expert at everything — you need the maturity to know your own limits and manage around them. • Self-directed and versatile. This is a part-time, remote, ongoing role covering a wide range of technical needs — you'll need to manage your own scope and communicate proactively, not wait for detailed tickets. Engagement details • Type: Part-time, ongoing — not a fixed-scope project, and not limited to a defined task list. Aiming toward a long-term working relationship if it's a fit. • Pay: Flat $450/month, with the opportunity for a profit share after successful build/deployment of the platform and one year of engagement. • Start: Paid trial/initial project (e.g., taking one module to production or completing the Airtable migration for a defined piece) to confirm mutual fit before committing to an ongoing arrangement. • Communication: Regular check-ins (weekly or biweekly), async updates via Slack/email in between. How to apply Please include: 1. A few examples of things you've built and shipped, especially anything involving REST API integrations (payments, SMS/telephony, IoT/telematics, or similar). 2. Your take on the smartest way to move a localStorage-based prototype like this onto Airtable (or an alternative you'd recommend instead, and why). 3. Your confirmed availability on an ongoing, part-time basis.
