OB/GYN Coding Consultant
Worldwide
We are seeking an experienced OB/GYN Professional Fee Coding Consultant to support a four-week Women’s Services documentation and coding project for a large multi-hospital health system transitioning obstetrical physician services from a global reimbursement model to fee-for-service. The consultant will work closely with our physician executive, clinical documentation resources, OB physicians, documentation/EHR consultant, and project team to ensure that revised documentation standards appropriately support professional-fee billing under a fee-for-service model. Key Responsibilities Map each OB service and encounter type to the applicable professional-fee billing requirements. Review existing OB documentation templates from a professional-fee coding perspective. Review proposed documentation templates, SmartPhrases/SmartTexts, and related documentation tools. Identify documentation elements necessary to appropriately support fee-for-service billing. Evaluate documentation standards to ensure global-package assumptions are not inadvertently carried forward into a fee-for-service environment. Validate sample physician notes against expected CPT and ICD-10 coding requirements. Identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, or potential coding risks. Review and validate the final documentation standards from a professional-fee coding perspective. Review HealthStream physician education content to ensure coding and documentation guidance is accurate and appropriately aligned with professional-fee requirements. Participate in final review, sign-off, and user-acceptance testing (UAT). Help develop practical examples demonstrating good/complete documentation versus insufficient documentation for common OB/GYN encounters and services. Provide clear, actionable feedback to the project team and physician stakeholders. Ideal Candidate Profile CPC, COC, CCS, or similar professional coding certification. Strong, hands-on experience with OB/GYN professional-fee coding. Demonstrated understanding of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding for obstetrical and gynecological services. Experience supporting physician documentation improvement initiatives. Strong understanding of the distinction between global obstetrical reimbursement and fee-for-service professional billing. Experience reviewing physician documentation templates and translating coding requirements into practical documentation guidance. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify documentation and coding risks. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with physicians, coding/CDI professionals, and healthcare IT/EHR consultants. Ability to work independently and efficiently within a compressed four-week project timeline.
