# Grant Writing & Research Assistant – Healthcare Organization ## About the Role Lovebird Healthcare Solutions is seeking an experienced **Grant Writing & Research Assistant** to support our growing healthcare organization with identifying funding opportunities, preparing competitive grant applications, and maintaining an organized grant pipeline. We are looking for someone who understands that successful grant work involves more than finding opportunities. The ideal candidate can research appropriate funding sources, evaluate eligibility and fit, gather application requirements, assist with writing strong proposals, prepare supporting documentation, and help manage applications through submission. Our organization is expanding healthcare and community-based services, and we are building a structured grant and funding system that can support both current programs and future growth. ## Key Responsibilities ### Grant Research * Research federal, state, local, foundation, corporate, and healthcare-related grant opportunities. * Identify grants appropriate for healthcare programs and organizational expansion. * Research government funding opportunities and relevant public-sector programs. * Review eligibility requirements before recommending opportunities. * Identify application deadlines, award amounts, funding periods, match requirements, and restrictions. * Locate official grant guidelines, NOFOs/NOFAs, RFPs, application instructions, and supporting documents. * Research previous awards or funded organizations when information is publicly available. * Determine whether opportunities are a strong fit before adding them to our active pipeline. ### Grant Writing * Assist with drafting complete grant applications and proposals. * Develop and edit: * Organizational descriptions * Statements of need * Program descriptions * Goals and objectives * Project narratives * Implementation plans * Sustainability plans * Evaluation sections * Organizational capacity statements * Budget narratives * Customize existing organizational information for individual grant opportunities. * Ensure responses directly address funder requirements and scoring criteria. * Proofread applications for grammar, clarity, consistency, and completeness. * Help develop reusable grant boilerplate language and a grant content library. ### Applications & Submission Preparation * Review complete application instructions and create application checklists. * Maintain a list of required documents for each opportunity. * Coordinate with management to obtain missing information. * Prepare supporting documentation for submission. * Organize attachments using standardized naming conventions. * Complete online application information when assigned. * Track application progress from research through submission. * Verify that applications are complete before deadlines. * Maintain copies of submitted applications and confirmation records. * Track follow-up requirements and award notifications. **Important:** Final submissions requiring organizational certification, legal attestations, financial certifications, or executive authorization must be reviewed and approved by leadership before submission. ## Grant Pipeline Management The Grant Writing & Research Assistant will help maintain our grant tracking system. Each opportunity should include, at minimum: * Grant/funder name * Funding organization * Grant website * Program/funding category * Funding amount * Application deadline * Eligibility requirements * Geographic restrictions * Program requirements * Required registrations * Required documents * Application link * Contact information * Current status * Assigned team member * Next action * Submission date * Award/decline status * Notes Grant documents and research must be saved within our designated Microsoft 365/SharePoint filing system. ## Types of Funding We Are Interested In Our primary focus is **healthcare-related funding opportunities**, including opportunities supporting areas such as: * Healthcare services * Home and community-based services * Senior services * Aging-in-place initiatives * Caregiver support * Healthcare workforce development * Community health * Health education * Chronic disease initiatives * Maternal and family health * Behavioral and mental health programs * Disability services * Veteran-related healthcare initiatives * Health equity initiatives * Technology and healthcare innovation * Organizational capacity building * Healthcare business expansion when eligible The assistant should also be able to identify adjacent funding opportunities that align with our programs rather than limiting searches to grants containing the word “healthcare.” ## Qualifications We are specifically looking for an **experienced grant writer**. Preferred candidates will have: * Demonstrated grant research and grant writing experience. * Experience preparing complete grant applications. * Strong research and analytical skills. * Ability to interpret detailed grant guidelines and eligibility requirements. * Excellent written English. * Strong proofreading and editing skills. * Experience with healthcare, human services, community programs, or related industries. * Experience researching government and foundation funding. * Strong organizational and deadline-management skills. * Ability to work independently and document research clearly. * Experience working with Microsoft 365, Excel, SharePoint, or similar systems. * Ability to manage multiple grant opportunities simultaneously. Experience with Grants.gov, SAM.gov, state funding portals, foundation databases, or similar grant platforms is highly preferred. ## What We Do NOT Want We are not looking for someone who simply provides a spreadsheet containing hundreds of random grant links. Every recommended opportunity should be reviewed for: 1. Eligibility 2. Organizational fit 3. Program alignment 4. Geographic eligibility 5. Funding restrictions 6. Application requirements 7. Deadline feasibility Quality and fit are more important than the number of grants identified. ## Initial Projects The selected freelancer will initially help us: 1. Review and organize our existing grant research. 2. Build or clean up our active grant pipeline. 3. Identify high-priority healthcare funding opportunities. 4. Create a grant deadline calendar. 5. Gather application guidelines and required documents. 6. Identify organizational documents that should be maintained in our grant library. 7. Develop reusable grant boilerplate content. 8. Prioritize opportunities based on eligibility, funding potential, deadline, and strategic fit. 9. Begin preparing selected grant applications. 10. Track applications through leadership review and submission. ## Deliverables Expected deliverables may include: * Grant opportunity research * Grant pipeline/database updates * Funding opportunity summaries * Grant application checklists * Draft grant narratives * Completed application drafts * Supporting-document checklists * Submission-ready grant packages * Grant calendar updates * Weekly grant activity/status reports ## To Apply Please include the following in your proposal: 1. Briefly describe your grant writing experience. 2. Describe your experience with healthcare, human services, nonprofit, or community-based grants. 3. Provide examples of the types of grants you have written. 4. What is the largest grant you have helped secure? 5. Have you worked with federal or state grant applications? 6. Which grant research databases or platforms have you used? 7. Describe your process for determining whether an organization should pursue a grant. 8. Provide a redacted writing sample or grant proposal sample, if available. 9. Tell us whether you prefer hourly or milestone-based projects. 10. Include the phrase **“Lovebird Grant Growth”** at the beginning of your proposal so we know you reviewed the complete posting. ## Ideal Working Relationship We are looking for someone who can potentially develop into a long-term member of our funding and business development support team. The right person will not simply wait for assignments. We value someone who can research opportunities, identify potential issues, organize information, communicate deadlines, and recommend next steps while keeping leadership informed. Accuracy, organization, confidentiality, communication, and meeting deadlines are essential for this position.
