Graphic Designer Needed for Custom Book PR Box Packaging
Worldwide
Hi! I’m looking for a graphic designer to create the artwork for a custom PR mailer box for my upcoming novel, Songs We Never Learned. The book is a rockstar romance/coming-of-age story set in the early-2000s emo scene, so I want the packaging to feel like something you could have actually gotten with an album or piece of band merch around 2002–2005. The box is 9.5" × 7.75" × 4" through Vistaprint, and I can provide their dieline/template. I actually want the design to be very simple and restrained. The box itself should be black with a subtle distressed/photocopied texture. On the top, I want SONGS WE NEVER LEARNED written in messy, natural handwriting, as though one of the characters scribbled it down himself. Think musician's notebook/Sharpie/lyric-sheet handwriting—not a horror font, punk font, or an obviously digital “handwritten” typeface. I'd also like a small electric guitar graphic incorporated somewhere on the lid, preferably something that feels like vintage clip art, a photocopied image, or an element pulled into a Photoshop/zine layout. I want a small amount of dark red incorporated as an accent. The front flap should simply say IMANI DIVINE in clean, professional typography. Everything else can remain essentially blank/black. The biggest thing I'm trying to avoid is the current AI-generated “grunge” look—random scratches, fake handwritten fonts, excessive doodles, splatters, pentagrams/stars, perfectly arranged distressing, etc. I want this to look like a human graphic designer made it in Photoshop/Illustrator using actual typography, textures, and graphic assets. Think early-2000s emo/post-hardcore album packaging, photocopied liner notes, Alternative Press, old tour merch, DIY zines, but with enough restraint that it still feels professionally art-directed. Deliverables: print-ready artwork correctly placed on the provided Vistaprint dieline, plus the editable source file (PSD/AI or equivalent) and high-resolution export. If you apply, please send examples of album packaging, merch, zines, distressed print design, editorial design, or music-related work if you have them. Experience designing packaging for print is a major plus. And because this project is extremely music-driven: tell me your favorite 2000s emo/alternative album in your proposal so I know you read the whole post.
