IRS e-File / MeF Compliance Lead – Fractional

We are looking for an experienced U.S. tax professional to lead our IRS e-file and Modernized e-File (MeF) compliance efforts. You will help us become an authorized IRS e-file provider and software developer/transmitter, guide us through the EFIN/ETIN and MeF application process, support IRS Assurance Testing System (ATS) certification, and serve as a key compliance contact for our e-file operations. This is a fractional role suited to an experienced CPA, Enrolled Agent, tax technology professional, or former IRS/e-file compliance professional. Lead the IRS e-file provider application and onboarding process. Advise on the appropriate IRS e-file roles, including Software Developer, Transmitter and related classifications. Serve as, or be eligible to serve as, a **Responsible Official and/or Key Person** for the company's IRS e-file operation. Guide applications for EFINs, ETINs and other required IRS identifiers. Ensure ongoing compliance with IRS Publication 3112 and applicable e-file requirements. Work with our engineering team on IRS Modernized e-File implementation. Guide the company through IRS **Assurance Testing System (ATS)** certification. Review MeF operational processes, security procedures and compliance controls. Act as a point of contact for IRS e-file compliance matters where required. Help interpret IRS MeF schemas, business rules, publications and technical guidance. Advise management on changes to IRS e-file regulations and procedures. Support annual renewals, testing and continued authorization. Required Qualifications U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, where required to qualify as an IRS e-file Principal, Responsible Official or Key Person. Strong knowledge of IRS electronic filing requirements. Experience with IRS e-file, EFIN/ETIN applications, MeF or tax software compliance. Ability and willingness to take genuine responsibility for oversight of the company's IRS e-file operation. Strong understanding of U.S. federal tax filing processes. Excellent written communication and ability to work with technical teams. This is initially a fractional consulting position, approximately 5–10 hours per month after onboarding. More involvement may be required during the initial IRS application, ATS testing and launch phases. We are open to a longer-term engagement as our tax filing infrastructure expands.
