ISO 27001 Documentation Specialist / Technical Writer

We are looking for an experienced ISO 27001 Documentation Specialist to support our team in preparing the documentation required for ISO 27001 certification. Important: This is not an auditor or high-level ISO consultancy role. We already have an auditor, a defined certification pathway, a list of required documents, examples/templates, and a number of existing drafts. We are looking for someone who can work hands-on with our operational team to draft, structure, review and finalise the required documentation, ensuring it accurately reflects how our business and systems operate and is ready for internal audit. Scope of work - Work from an existing list of ISO 27001 documentation requirements, templates, examples and drafts. - Review existing documentation and identify what can be reused, consolidated, simplified or does not need to be created. - Draft and finalise policies, procedures, registers and other ISMS documentation required within the agreed scope. - Work directly with our operational team to gather the information needed to complete each document. - Translate existing business processes and technical practices into clear, accurate and practical documentation. - Ensure consistency across documents, including terminology, responsibilities, controls and referenced processes. - Make sure documentation reflects our actual operating model, rather than creating generic ISO templates that do not match the business. - Flag genuine gaps where a process, control, evidence or decision is required from our team. - Help organise the documentation set so that it is clear, controlled and ready for internal audit. - Work towards a defined delivery schedule, with all agreed documentation completed ahead of our planned internal audit. What we are looking for - Proven hands-on experience writing and implementing ISO 27001 documentation for organisations preparing for certification. - Previous responsibility for creating policies, procedures and ISMS documentation — not simply participating in an ISO certification project. - Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and the structure of an ISMS. - Ability to understand both business/operational processes and technical environments. - Experience interviewing or working with operational stakeholders to document how processes actually work. - Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and audit-ready documentation. - Good judgement around what documentation is genuinely required, what can be combined or simplified, and what is unnecessary for the organisation's scope. - Ability to work independently against clear deadlines and proactively identify missing information or dependencies.
