Interactive Story Writer for Mobile Visual Novel Game

Job Description I'm building a new mobile interactive storytelling game where players don't just read the story — they become the main character, make decisions, develop relationships, unlock scenes, and influence how the story unfolds. I'm looking for talented interactive fiction writers to create original stories for the platform. This is not traditional novel writing. I'm looking for writers who understand — or are excited to learn — how to write for an interactive visual format: strong dialogue, short readable scenes, meaningful choices, branching paths, romantic tension, cliffhangers, and characters players become emotionally invested in. What You'll Do • Develop original concepts suitable for an interactive mobile story • Create a story outline before beginning the full script • Write episodic, choice-driven stories • Create compelling romance routes and love interests • Write meaningful player choices with different reactions and consequences • Develop branching scenes and alternate outcomes where appropriate • Write dialogue designed to appear naturally on screen • Create strong episode openings, hooks, reveals, and cliffhangers • Maintain character personalities and relationships consistently throughout the story • Revise scripts when necessary to improve pacing, characterization, choices, or player engagement The Format Stories will be written as interactive scripts rather than traditional prose. Scripts may include: • Scene/location changes • Character dialogue • Character actions and expressions • Narration where appropriate • Player choices • Branching dialogue and scenes • Relationship or personality variables • Premium/optional scenes • Conditional dialogue based on previous decisions You do NOT need to program or code the game. What I'm Looking For • Strong fiction writing and storytelling skills • Excellent dialogue • Ability to create memorable characters and believable chemistry • Understanding of romantic tension, conflict, pacing, and emotional payoff • Ability to write from the player's perspective rather than treating the protagonist as a passive character • Comfortable writing branching choices and alternate reactions • Able to follow an established format and editorial direction • Reliable with deadlines and revisions • Strong written English Experience writing for interactive fiction, visual novels, narrative games, mobile story apps, or similar projects is highly preferred. Writers with backgrounds primarily in novels, Wattpad, Webnovel, screenwriting, or other fiction formats are also welcome to apply if they can adapt their writing to interactive storytelling. What This Is NOT • Not traditional novel writing • Not primarily worldbuilding • Not game programming • Not UI/UX writing • Not a role where choices simply lead to the same dialogue every time Player agency is important. Choices should feel satisfying and should affect conversations, relationships, scenes, or outcomes whenever appropriate. Genres I'm especially interested in commercially appealing stories involving: Romance, drama, mystery, adventure and horror. Genre combinations are welcome. Ideal Storytelling Style I'm looking for stories that are: Addictive. Emotional. Romantic. Fast-paced. Character-driven. Highly interactive. Episodes should make players want to immediately start the next one. I value strong hooks, memorable love interests, escalating stakes, romantic chemistry, satisfying reveals, and choices players actually have to think about.
