Interactive data visualization specialist for consulting-grade data stories
Worldwide
WHAT WE DO We are a management consulting firm. The work is research-heavy - market sizing, operating-model economics, benchmarking, cost-to-serve, sector deep dives - and we publish a steady stream of thought leadership built on that research: LinkedIn posts and carousels, a newsletter, short explainers. We do the research and the analysis in-house, and we already build our own charts. They are accurate. They are just not good - not at the level a specialist produces. That gap is exactly what we are hiring for. WHAT WE NEED A data visualization specialist who can take a finished analysis and turn it into something people stop scrolling for. Think the exhibits you would find in a McKinsey, BCG or Bain report, rebuilt for a phone screen and a three-second attention span. The primary focus is interactive work: self-contained, embeddable, hover-and-explore charts that live on the web and get linked from social. Secondary, and less frequent, is short animated versions of the same for feed-native posting. A typical item is one chart or one exhibit. A ranked comparison. A flow. A distribution. A before-and-after. A two-axis positioning map. A time series with one inflection worth pointing at. WHAT YOU WILL AND WILL NOT DO You will not gather data, run the analysis, or decide the argument. For each item you receive a clean dataset (usually a small table), one line stating the point the chart has to make, our palette and typefaces, and the target format and dimensions. You will choose the right visual form for that relationship, build it, and make sure it reads correctly at 390px wide. Every item is deliberately small and self-contained. That is what makes the economics work. TERMS - PLEASE READ THESE BEFORE APPLYING - Rate: 5 USD per visualization. Flat, per item. It is priced on the assumption that you are fast, that you are not doing research or analysis, and that each item is a single chart. - Revisions: two rounds included, as a minimum. If we ask for two rounds of changes on an item, that sits inside the 5 USD. Our feedback will be specific and consolidated, not drip-fed one comment at a time. - Turnaround: 48 hours per item, from brief to first draft. - Volume: this starts as a paid trial of 3 visualizations, 15 USD total. If the work lands, it becomes ongoing and steady. We publish continuously and would much rather have one person who knows our visual system than a rotating cast. - Source files come with delivery: the code, the .fig, the After Effects project, whatever you built it in. We need to be able to change a number without re-commissioning the chart. If that rate does not work for you, we completely understand - please do not apply, and we will not waste each other's time. We would rather be upfront than negotiate. TOOLS We are not prescriptive. D3, Observable Plot, Flourish, Datawrapper, Highcharts, ECharts, Svelte or React with SVG, After Effects with Lottie, Figma. Use whatever gets you there. Interactive pieces do need to be self-contained and embeddable. HOW TO APPLY Please skip the template cover letter. Send us: 1. Three examples of your own data visualization work. At least one interactive, as a live link rather than a screenshot. One line each on what the chart was arguing. 2. One chart you consider badly designed, and what you would change about it. We care more about your judgment than your reel. 3. Confirmation that 5 USD per item, two revision rounds and a 48-hour turnaround work for you. 4. Your realistic capacity per week at that rate. We read every application and reply either way.
