Interpreters Wanted — Los Angeles County-Based (Multiple Languages)

Taika Translations is building a roster of on-call interpreters based in Los Angeles County for public meetings and community events. We're currently looking for interpreters in any of the following languages: Armenian, Arabic, Khmer (Cambodian), Cantonese, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Thai, Mandarin, Farsi, Indonesian, Malay. You only need to be fluent in one of these (plus English) to apply. This is on-call, as-needed work for independent contractors — not guaranteed hours — so reliable availability (including evenings/weekends) will get you the most assignments. This role requires you to be based in LA County. What you'll do • Provide spoken-language interpretation between English and your language at public meetings, hearings, and community events, in person or via Zoom/Teams. • Stay calm and professional in public settings that can become contentious or emotional. • Arrive 30 minutes early; if no one needs interpretation, wait 30 minutes past the start time before treating it as a no-show. • Notify us right away by phone or email if you're running late, can't make an assignment, or something unusual comes up. What we're looking for • Professional interpreting experience in your language and English, ideally in public, government, or community settings; certification/accreditation preferred. • Comfortable interpreting over Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and able to help attendees get set up. • Based in Los Angeles County, with reliable transportation to sites across the county on short notice (parking/mileage aren't billed separately, so factor that into your rate). • Punctual and dependable — this is client-facing, public-meeting work.
