Imported Goods Magazine Most music coverage feels like it's chasing the algorithm. We're not interested in that. Imported Goods is a digital media brand covering fashion, art, music, and culture through an independent editorial lens. We care more about introducing people to the next great artist than repeating what everyone already knows. If you're the person constantly sending your friends songs from artists with 500 monthly listeners... keep reading. What You'll Do You'll have the freedom to create content in whichever format fits your strengths. Choose one (or multiple): Social media posts introducing artists we should know. Long-form features for our Substack. Magazine articles. Album or EP reviews. Artist interviews. Scene reports. Editorial essays about music and culture. Playlists with written commentary. Anything else you believe deserves attention. You won't be assigned topics every week. Instead, we're looking for someone with taste. Bring us artists, scenes, movements, sounds, and stories that deserve a larger audience. What We're Looking For We're not looking for someone who simply reports news. We're looking for someone who has opinions. Someone with a distinctive writing voice. Someone who naturally discovers artists before everyone else. Someone who understands internet culture, underground music, fashion, and the communities that surround them. You should enjoy finding artists that people haven't heard of yet—not writing about whoever is currently trending. You Might Be a Good Fit If... You're constantly digging through Bandcamp, SoundCloud, YouTube, TikTok, Discord, local scenes, or independent labels. You listen to music because you genuinely love discovering it. Your friends ask you what they're sleeping on. You care about the culture surrounding music—not just the music itself. You can explain why an artist matters. What We Cover We're open to almost every genre. House. Indie. Hip-hop. Experimental. Electronic. Jazz. Punk. Alternative. Ambient. Global music. Anything with something to say. The only requirement is that it feels authentic and worth sharing. How It Works Freelance position. Paid per approved piece of content or article. Weekly or bi-weekly opportunities depending on your availability. Choose whether you'd like to create: Social media content Substack articles Magazine features Or a combination of all three Work remotely. Pitch your own ideas. You'll receive full editorial credit on everything you create. Mandatory Application Requirement This is required. Applications without this section won't be considered. Tell us about 3–5 music artists you think Imported Goods should know. For each artist, include: Artist name One or two sentences explaining why they deserve attention One song, project, or performance we should start with (Optional) A link to their music We're less interested in how famous your picks are and more interested in whether you can genuinely introduce us to something we'll remember. Think of this as your audition.
