Summary

Licensed Dermatologist / Physician – Hair & Scalp Education Content Contributor Project Overview An established U.S.-based consumer hair-care company is developing an evidence-informed educational content series focused on hair and scalp wellness across the lifespan, beginning with childhood and family education. We are seeking a licensed dermatologist, pediatric dermatologist, or appropriately qualified physician with demonstrated knowledge or experience related to dermatology, hair, scalp health, pediatrics, or consumer health education. This is not a product endorsement opportunity and does not involve diagnosing, prescribing, or providing individualized medical advice. Our goal is to create approachable, medically responsible educational content that helps consumers better understand routine hair and scalp care, common concerns, and when evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional may be appropriate. The initial assignment will be small, with the potential for an ongoing contributor relationship involving video, written articles, expert interviews, and medical/scientific content review. Who We're Looking For Preference will be given to: - Board-certified/board-eligible dermatologists - Pediatric dermatologists - Physicians with demonstrated hair/scalp or dermatology expertise - Pediatricians with relevant hair/scalp knowledge - Physicians experienced in patient or consumer education - Medical professionals with strong science-communication skills International physicians are welcome to apply. Applicants do not need to be located in the United States; however, all professional credentials and licensure/registration will be independently verified. Please represent your specialty precisely. Applicants should not identify themselves as dermatologists or pediatric dermatologists unless they hold the applicable specialty training or recognition within their jurisdiction. Potential Educational Topics Initial topics may include: - Healthy hair and scalp practices during childhood - Understanding common childhood scalp concerns - Hair breakage versus hair loss - Tension and repetitive styling practices - Ponytails, elastics, braids, and other common children's hairstyles - When a hair or scalp concern should be evaluated by a healthcare professional - Common causes of scalp dryness, flaking, itching, or irritation - How hair and scalp needs change with age - Common misconceptions about hair and scalp health - Hair/scalp considerations across different textures and hair characteristics - Adolescent scalp changes - Adult hair and scalp wellness across different life stages Final topics will be selected based on the contributor's professional expertise. Initial Video Deliverables We anticipate beginning with approximately 3 short educational videos. Individual videos will generally be approximately 3–7 minutes before post-production. We are primarily interested in the contributor's expertise and communication. Our team can handle final editing, branding, captions, graphics, B-roll, and other post-production. Contributors should therefore be comfortable providing clean, high-quality original footage rather than a fully produced final video. Recording Requirements Selected contributors should be able to record in a professional-looking environment using a smartphone, camera, or comparable recording setup. Footage should generally meet the following standards: - 1080p minimum; 4K preferred when available - Camera positioned approximately at eye level - Stable camera/tripod - Well-lit face - Soft frontal or natural lighting preferred - Clean, uncluttered, professional background - Quiet environment - Clear audio with minimal echo or background noise - External or lavalier microphone preferred when available - No beauty filters or artificial facial alteration - No copyrighted music - No embedded captions - No personal branding, watermarks, or third-party logos unless approved - Several seconds of silence before and after each recording - Original/highest-quality file provided whenever possible Please do not heavily edit the recording before delivery. Specific horizontal and/or vertical framing instructions will be provided with each assignment. On-Camera Communication We are looking for someone who can translate medical/scientific information into language that parents and everyday consumers can understand. The ideal contributor should come across as: - Knowledgeable - Warm - Approachable - Clear - Inclusive - Comfortable on camera - Educational rather than alarmist We are not looking for someone simply reading a medical script. If your Upwork portfolio contains examples of you speaking on camera, please include them. If no video sample is publicly available, shortlisted applicants may be asked to provide a brief 30–60 second introduction/on-camera sample before final selection. Credential Verification Because selected contributors may be publicly identified using their professional credentials, all credentials will be independently verified before any content is published. Shortlisted candidates should be prepared to provide: - Full professional/legal name - Professional degree(s) - Medical school - Year of graduation - Residency training - Fellowship training, if applicable - Specialty/subspecialty - Current professional title - Country of practice - Jurisdiction(s) of current licensure or registration - Medical license/registration number(s) - Board certification or equivalent specialty certification, if applicable - Current institutional/professional affiliation, if applicable - Relevant academic appointments, research, or publications - Public professional profiles where credentials can be independently confirmed International applicants will be evaluated according to the professional licensing and specialty-recognition standards applicable to their jurisdiction. Content Standards Contributors must be comfortable producing evidence-informed educational content that: - Remains within their professional scope - Distinguishes general education from individualized medical advice - Does not diagnose viewers - Does not prescribe individualized treatment - Avoids unsupported medical or cosmetic claims - Appropriately identifies when professional evaluation may be warranted - Represents scientific uncertainty accurately - Is inclusive of different hair types, textures, ethnicities, ages, and cultural hair-care practices We value experts who are comfortable saying when the available evidence is limited or when a question cannot responsibly be answered without an individual evaluation. No Product Endorsement Required This assignment is for independent educational contribution, not product promotion. You will not be required to endorse, recommend, prescribe, or make claims regarding a specific cosmetic product. If future projects involve product-specific scientific review, those assignments would be separately scoped and agreed upon before work begins. Potential Ongoing Work We would prefer to build an ongoing relationship with a small number of trusted expert contributors. Future assignments may include: - Additional educational videos - 750–1,500 word consumer education articles - Expert Q&A content - Medical/scientific review of existing educational materials - Research interpretation - Fact-checking and citation review - Long-form interviews - Educational content addressing different stages of childhood and adulthood - Participation in broader hair/scalp educational initiatives Content Usage Selected contributors must be comfortable granting the company agreed-upon rights to use commissioned content and approved representations of their name, image, likeness, voice, and professional credentials in connection with that content. Content may be edited for: - Length - Clarity - Accessibility - Captions - Formatting - Graphics - Branding - B-roll - Social-media excerpts - Website presentation - Email and digital educational distribution Editing will not intentionally alter the substance or meaning of the contributor's professional statements. Specific usage rights, attribution, compensation, and approval terms will be established before production. To Apply Please provide: 1. Your full professional title and credentials. 2. Your medical specialty and areas of expertise. 3. Your country and jurisdiction(s) of current licensure/registration. 4. Your current license/registration status. 5. Board certification or equivalent specialty recognition, if applicable. 6. Brief information about your experience with dermatology, pediatrics, hair/scalp health, hair loss, or related areas. 7. Experience creating consumer/patient education. 8. Links to relevant publications, articles, professional profiles, or research. 9. A link to an on-camera sample, if available. 10. Whether you are interested in ongoing video assignments. 11. Whether you are interested in writing consumer education articles. 12. Whether you are interested in medical/scientific content review. Please provide fixed-price estimates for: - 1 short educational video (approximately 3–7 minutes) - Package of 3 short educational videos - 750–1,000 word evidence-informed consumer article - Medical/scientific review of an existing 750–1,500 word article We understand that your Upwork hourly rate may differ from your fixed-price content rates. Short Application Question Please answer the following in approximately 3–5 sentences: How would you explain the difference between hair breakage and hair loss to a concerned parent without diagnosing their child? We are using this question primarily to evaluate your ability to translate professional knowledge into clear, responsible consumer education. Important This posting intentionally provides only a general description of the educational initiative. Additional information regarding the company, brand, audience, editorial strategy, and specific assignments will be shared with shortlisted candidates as appropriate. We are interested in building a thoughtful, credible, long-term educational resource — not simply producing promotional content.
