Licensed Gaming & Crypto Lawyer for Skill-Based Esports MVP Legal Pack

Posted 3 weeks ago

Summary

We are building an early-stage platform for skill-based FPS games competitions with entry fees and prizes. Players compete only in matches they personally participate in. We do not offer third-party betting, casino games, sportsbook services, odds, multipliers, prediction markets or chance-based gameplay. For the MVP, users will fund competitions with USDC. The platform will keep an internal balance, lock funds when a competition is accepted, verify results using server data, credit the winner, process refunds and withdrawals, and retain a 10% service fee. The operating company will most likely be incorporated in Costa Rica. Company registration and the final review under Costa Rican law will be handled separately by local counsel. We are now looking for a licensed lawyer who can help us prepare the legal and compliance documents required for the MVP. We need someone who understands online gaming products, crypto payments, AML/KYC and privacy, and who is willing to review how the actual platform works rather than provide generic templates. The main deliverables are: Terms of Use and Competition Rules These should cover: user eligibility and the 18+ requirement; open and private competitions; entry fees, prizes and the platform’s 10% service fee; deposits, internal balances and locked funds; match-result verification; cheating, collusion and prohibited behaviour; cancellations, no-shows, disconnects and server failures; refunds, withdrawals and disputes; restricted countries and account limitations. Internal AML/KYC and Sanctions Policy The policy should cover the practical procedures we need for the MVP, including: identity and age verification; customer risk levels; sanctions and PEP screening; crypto-wallet and transaction screening; source-of-funds checks where required; suspicious activity review; withdrawal checks and account restrictions; record retention. A short public-facing KYC/AML notice This should explain to users when verification may be required, why a transaction or withdrawal may be reviewed, and what information we may request. Privacy Policy The platform may process identity-verification information, Steam and Discord account data, IP and geolocation data, wallet addresses, transaction history, match logs, demos and dispute evidence. A practical implementation checklist We need a clear list of what must be implemented in the product and backend, for example: where users must confirm their age; when Terms and Competition Rules must be accepted; where fees and payout information must be shown; when KYC or sanctions checks should take place; what acceptance and compliance records must be stored. We will provide a project brief, a description of the payment flow and view-only access to the relevant Figma screens. The work should include one call with the founders, editable documents in Word or Google Docs and two reasonable rounds of revisions. We would ideally like to complete the work within 2–4 weeks. We are not looking for documents copied from a casino, sportsbook or crypto-exchange template. The final documents must reflect the actual VersusArena product, its competition rules and its payment flow. This project does not include: Costa Rican company registration; a formal Costa Rican Legal Opinion; licensing applications; a full legal review of every potential user country; trademark work; token documentation. Please apply only if you are admitted to practise law in a recognised jurisdiction. In your proposal, please include: your jurisdiction of admission and bar or registration number; a brief description of relevant gaming, fintech, crypto or AML/KYC work; whether you will personally prepare the documents; your proposed fixed fee and delivery timeline; how many revision rounds are included. Our listed budget is the target for the MVP package. We are open to reviewing a different fixed-fee proposal where the candidate has highly relevant experience and clearly explains what is included. Confidential materials will be shared only with shortlisted candidates through Upwork.
