Summary

Mechanical/CAD Designer Needed for 3D-Printed Electronics Enclosure Prototype We are looking for a mechanical/product designer to help create and prototype a custom enclosure for a small indoor air-quality monitoring device. The enclosure needs to house: • Sensirion SEN66 environmental sensor https://sensirion.com/products/catalog/SEN66 • LILYGO T-Display C5 https://lilygo.cc/en-us/products/t-display-c5 • A small external Wi-Fi antenna mounted directly to the enclosure. The enclosure should provide proper mounting and clearance for all components while maintaining appropriate airflow through and around the SEN66 sensor. The following T-Display C5 features need to remain externally accessible: • Display • USB port for power • Reset button • IO0 button The external antenna should mount securely to the enclosure, with the internal antenna cable routed to the T-Display C5. SCOPE For this initial phase, we are focused on functional prototypes rather than a production-ready enclosure. We would like to: • Develop 2–3 different enclosure concepts/styles • Review and select a preferred direction • Refine the selected design for fit and usability • Produce a design suitable for 3D printing • Ideally create one or more physical prototypes for fit testing The design should consider: • Component mounting and assembly • Proper sensor inlet/outlet airflow • Internal cable routing • Access to buttons and USB • Antenna mounting • Appropriate wall thicknesses and tolerances for 3D printing • Ease of assembly and disassembly • A clean, simple appearance suitable for an indoor consumer device PROJECT PHASING AND BUDGET This engagement is focused specifically on prototyping and design exploration. At this stage, we are looking for practical design ideas, functional enclosure concepts, and 3D-printable prototypes rather than production-ready engineering. For that reason, we are currently considering proposals toward the lower end of the budget range. A later Phase 2 is expected to build on the selected concept and may include: • Adapting the enclosure for outdoor or more demanding environmental conditions • Further refinement of the industrial and mechanical design • Design for manufacturing and production • Material and manufacturing-process selection • Additional testing, tolerances, assembly considerations, and production optimization A successful Phase 1 engagement could therefore lead to additional work during the production-development phase. DELIVERABLES • Editable source CAD files • STEP files • STL and/or 3MF files suitable for 3D printing • Final enclosure design • Relevant assembly or dimensional drawings We will provide component specifications, reference materials, and additional information as needed. We can also ship physical hardware if required for fit testing. IDEAL EXPERIENCE We are looking for someone with experience in: • Mechanical product design • Electronics or IoT enclosure design • Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar parametric CAD software • Designing parts for 3D printing • Prototype development and iteration Experience designing housings for sensors, ESP32/Raspberry Pi-based devices, consumer electronics, or similar products would be especially relevant. When applying, please include: • Examples of comparable enclosure or electronics-housing projects • The CAD software you use • Whether you have access to 3D-printing equipment for prototype testing • A brief description of how you would approach this project
