Mechanical Engineer/ Product Design Expert

I am seeking an experienced and inventive Mechanical Engineer/Product Design Expert to help develop a novel mechanical system for on-site electricity generation. This is an invention-led engineering project, not a conventional feasibility study. The project has a fixed underlying mechanical principle that will be disclosed following initial discussions and an NDA. The engineer’s role is to innovate from that foundation and develop mechanical solutions capable of meeting a defined performance specification. The Challenge The system must ultimately be developed toward: sustained electrical output for approximately four hours; defined electrical performance targets; strict mass and packaging constraints; safe and reliable operation; and a practical working prototype. I am looking for an engineer who enjoys difficult mechanical problems and can move beyond analysing existing solutions to inventing new mechanisms, configurations and engineering approaches. The work may involve: mechanical concept development; energy, torque, gearing and power-transfer calculations; development of mechanisms and subsystems; component selection and custom component design; optimisation of mechanical losses and performance; CAD and mechanical design; identifying and solving engineering bottlenecks; iterative design development; and planning and supporting prototype development and testing. The core mechanical foundation is a project constraint rather than something to be replaced. There is, however, significant freedom to innovate around its configuration, architecture, energy transfer, control and supporting mechanisms. Who I’m Looking For Ideally, you will have strong experience in mechanical product development, mechanisms, power transmission, energy systems, electromechanical products, prototyping or similar fields. I am particularly interested in engineers who are comfortable working on unconventional problems where the solution is not already known and who enjoy inventing toward demanding technical requirements. Confidentiality & Intellectual Property Further technical details will be provided to shortlisted candidates following an initial discussion and NDA. The successful engineer will also be required to enter into an intellectual property agreement. All project-specific inventions, designs, developments, drawings, CAD files, calculations, technical documentation and other intellectual property created specifically through the engagement will be assigned and transferred to me upon payment in accordance with the agreed contract. Any pre-existing intellectual property owned by the engineer prior to the engagement should be identified separately before work begins. Initial engineering development budget: approximately $10,000, with scope, milestones and any subsequent development phases to be agreed.
