Mechanical Product Engineer Needed – Plastic Product Design & CAD

I’m looking for an experienced mechanical/product engineer to help refine an existing physical product concept and develop an initial functional CAD design. The product is a small, reusable accessory for outdoor real estate signage. I have already developed the core concept, use case, preliminary dimensions, design requirements, concept drawings, and an early CAD model. I am not looking for someone to simply convert a sketch into CAD. I’m looking for an engineer who can evaluate and improve the design using their expertise in mechanical product development. Scope I need help evaluating and developing: Mechanical attachment/assembly method Side-loading mechanism for a replaceable insert Weather/water resistance and gasket/sealing strategy Plastic/material selection Wall thicknesses, clearances, and tolerances Durability and repeated-use considerations Part-count reduction and ease of assembly Design considerations for eventual injection molding/DFM Initial Deliverables For this first phase, I would like: Approximately 2–3 hours of engineering consultation/design review Recommendations on the mechanical design and manufacturing approach Refined 3D CAD based on the agreed design direction STEP/STP and STL files suitable for creating an initial functional prototype Brief written notes identifying any remaining engineering concerns or items that should be tested in the first prototype This does not need to be final production/tooling-ready CAD. The goal is to create a well-engineered V1 that can be physically prototyped, tested, and refined. Ideal Experience Please apply if you have experience with: Mechanical product engineering Plastic part design Injection-molded product design Mechanisms/latches/enclosures Gaskets or weather-resistant enclosures SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or similar professional CAD software Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Taking physical products from concept → prototype → manufacturing Experience designing outdoor products or reusable plastic consumer products is a plus.
