Mechanical designer: CAD model of a small precision-machined hand tool from a dimensioned drawing

Posted 3 days ago

Summary

We are a specialty construction contractor developing a small proprietary hand tool. The concept is fully defined: we have a complete dimensioned drawing with tolerances, materials, and build notes. We need it converted into a production-ready 3D CAD model and manufacturing package so we can order machined prototypes from a quick-turn CNC service (Xometry / Protolabs / Fictiv). This is a bounded, well-defined job, not open-ended design work. The part is a single-piece turned/milled component, roughly 4 inches long, machined from engineering plastic (acetal) for prototypes, with several internal bores carrying tight tolerances and one critical perpendicularity requirement. You will receive after NDA: a dimensioned drawing (all views, bore schedule, GD&T notes) and a written spec document. Deliverables: Native CAD file (SolidWorks or Fusion 360) and exported STEP file of the part A 2D manufacturing drawing (PDF) generated from the model, carrying over all tolerances, datums, and notes from our source drawing A print-check STL suitable for MJF nylon fit-check prints One revision round after we review the model Short written confirmation of how each toleranced feature was captured in the model Nice to have (quote separately): helping upload and configure the part for quoting on Xometry or similar, and a simple CAD model of a calibration fixture (a precision pin in a base) we will describe. Process: We will shortlist from proposals, then send Upwork's standard NDA. The drawing goes only to the hired freelancer. Nothing about the design should appear in your portfolio or public work samples without written permission. Timeline: Model needed within 5 business days of receiving the drawing. Fixed-price preferred.
