Mini Documentary on Financial Exclusion
Worldwide
I need a freelancer to create a short documentary based on interviews I have already recorded. The project includes editing the footage into a compelling narrative, adding voiceover or narration where needed, and producing a polished final video. The documentary should focus on the experiences of people affected by financial exclusion and highlight the broader issues they face. I’m looking for someone who can turn raw interview material into a clear, engaging story that communicates the topic effectively to viewers. Details: I have filmed interviews, B-roll and photographs from my PhD fieldwork on financial exclusion in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would like you to edit them into a short documentary of approximately 10 minutes. The film should: - begin immediately with a powerful participant testimony; - briefly establish the Bay Area context; - show the main barriers to banking: limited access, documentation or immigration issues, fees, mistrust, digital exclusion and financial scarcity; - show how participants cope through cash, check-cashing services, money orders, digital tools and support from family or community; - conclude that these strategies demonstrate agency, but cannot replace fair and accessible financial institutions. Please focus on the strongest four or five participants, with minimal narration and statistics. Use the B-roll and photographs to illustrate their everyday lives. The tone must be human, respectful and non-sensational. Please protect participants’ identities where required and use only material covered by their consent. Before editing, please send me a brief proposed structure with the selected excerpts and timecodes.
