Freelance Editorial Production Designer (Adobe InDesign) I’m looking for a reliable freelance production designer (preferably through an agency) to help produce a monthly neighborhood magazine in Adobe InDesign. This is not a blank-page design project. A complete InDesign template, paragraph styles, and previous issues are provided. The primary responsibility is producing a polished, print-ready magazine while preserving an established visual identity. Responsibilities * Lay out articles using an existing Adobe InDesign template. * Perform light copy editing for grammar, readability, consistency, and flow while preserving each author’s voice. * Suggest editorial improvements, including eliminating duplicated content between related articles and improving organization for readers. * Clearly identify and explain any substantive editorial changes before finalizing. * Create attractive page layouts through thoughtful use of typography, white space, pull quotes, captions, callout boxes, and supporting graphics. * Generate tasteful supporting illustrations using AI when appropriate. Images should complement the article rather than decorate it, and generally follow a consistent black-and-white pen-and-ink editorial style suitable for print. * Duplicate and update recurring sections from previous issues while maintaining consistency throughout the publication. * Prepare a print-ready InDesign package and identify production issues such as overset text, low-resolution images, missing links, or color-space problems. What I Provide * Complete article text. * Adobe InDesign template with established styles. * Previous issues as design references. * Photos, advertisements, and other supplied graphics. * Editorial guidance and final approval. Desired Qualifications * Advanced Adobe InDesign experience. * Strong editorial judgment and excellent written English. * Experience with magazine, newspaper, or newsletter production. * Comfortable making layout and editorial recommendations, not simply placing text into columns. * Familiarity with AI image-generation tools and the judgment to use them tastefully and consistently. * Experience preparing files for commercial printing. Turnaround This is recurring monthly work. A typical issue should be turned into a polished first draft within 2–3 business days after receiving the content.
