.NET Developers (Jr + Senior) and SQL Server DBA — Long-Term, Direct Hire Only
Worldwide
Read the whole post. Applications that skip the instructions at the bottom are rejected without review. The work We run a manufacturing/consumer-products intranet with two codebases side by side: 1. Legacy — ASP.NET Web Forms on .NET Framework 4.6.1. Roughly 171 .aspx pages, LINQ-to-SQL, integrations into SAP Business One. Still in daily production use. 2. Current — a .NET 8 rewrite: Blazor WebAssembly front end, Minimal API back end, EF Core 8, MudBlazor, Hangfire, SignalR. Windows Authentication, deployed to IIS via TeamCity, source in Gitea. The job is migrating features from the first into the second without breaking the business while we do it. Real EDI processing, SAP order flows, inventory and forecasting — not greenfield. Roles (we're hiring for three) Junior .NET Developer — You know C# and can find your way around a codebase. You'll start on well-scoped features and bug fixes in the .NET 8 app with review on everything. We care more that you're careful and ask questions than that you've seen Blazor before. Senior .NET Developer — You've migrated legacy .NET apps before and know where the bodies are buried. Comfortable reading Web Forms code-behind and deciding what the modern equivalent should be. EF Core, async C#, and enough SQL Server to know when the ORM is the problem. SQL Server DBA — Query performance, indexing, execution plans, and schema design across several databases including a SAP Business One instance we read from but do not own. Some of our slowest pages are slow because of the data layer, and we need someone who can prove it and fix it. Working conditions - 40 hours/week, ongoing. This is not a fixed-scope project. - Overlap of at least 4 hours with US Eastern required. - You work directly with us. Code review, a real branch/PR workflow, and a staging environment. ⛔ No agencies Individual freelancers only. No agencies, no staffing firms, no "my team can do this." Agency accounts that apply will be reported to Upwork, not just declined. If you are applying on someone else's behalf, don't. How to apply — follow this exactly Proposals that miss any of these are rejected unread: 1. First line of your proposal must be one of these words, and nothing else on that line: - WEBFORMS — Junior - MIGRATION — Senior - EXECUTIONPLAN — DBA 2. Second line: your timezone and your actual daily overlap with US Eastern. 3. Then, in 3–4 sentences max, answer the one question for your role (Do not use AI to answer these questions): - Junior: Describe a bug you fixed where your first guess at the cause was wrong. What made you change your mind? - Senior: You're migrating a Web Forms page that does data access in the code-behind and relies on ViewState. What's your approach, and what's the first thing likely to break? - DBA: A page got slow with no code change. Walk us through your first three steps. 4. Answer all five screening questions below. They appear in Upwork when you apply. Blank or one-word answers are treated as no application: 1. Which role are you applying for — Junior, Senior, or DBA? 2. Are you an individual freelancer, applying only for yourself — not an agency, staffing firm, or subcontractor? (Yes / No) 3. Link one piece of C# you wrote and can explain — repo, gist, or pasted snippet. Tell us in one line what it does. 4. Have you worked with ASP.NET Web Forms, EF Core, or SQL Server execution plans? Say which, and roughly how long. 5. What are your hours in US Eastern, and when could you start? No portfolios of unrelated work. No generic intros. If your proposal would read the same for a Shopify job, we'll know. We reply to every application that follows the instructions above, either way.
