AI-Native UX/UI Designer — Consumer IoT App

Summary

We're a fast-growing consumer electronics brand with a companion app for our connected air purifiers. Our design concepts are often AI-generated -- we don't need someone to invent from a blank canvas. We need a designer who takes AI-generated design outputs and existing production screens and gives them professional polish and engineering-ready specifications, then keeps raising the bar on the experiences that drive engagement and monetization in the app. You'll start with a paid, fixed-scope trial project (details below). Strong output converts to an ongoing weekly engagement as our go-to product designer. The App Hybrid mobile platform: native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) shells with embedded Tuya Mini App panels (Ray.js) for device control. The app covers device pairing, scheduling, real-time indoor/outdoor air quality, filter life, push notifications, and a growing engagement/monetization layer (app-only features, filter replacement nudges, channel-specific promotions). Product analytics run on PostHog; design source of truth is Figma. How the Engagement Starts — Paid Trial Your first milestone is a fixed-price project: take our AI-generated indoor air quality screens (concepts approved, CEO feedback already documented) and deliver (1) polished, production-quality high-fidelity Figma screens consistent with our design system, and (2) engineering handoff specs (redlines, states, components, copy) ready for our development team. Strong output converts directly to the ongoing role. What You'll Do Polish AI-generated designs to production quality. We move fast by generating concepts with AI. Your job is the last mile: visual polish, design-system consistency, edge cases, empty/error/loading states, and specs engineers can build from without guessing. You should be energized, not threatened, by AI-generated starting points. Design for engagement and monetization. App engagement and monetization is a top company priority this quarter. You'll design the experiences that drive it: filter-replacement nudge flows, push notification UX, re-engagement campaigns, app-exclusive features, and in-app promotions. Delight with a purpose — every design should move retention, downloads, or revenue. Present work as high-fidelity, interactive prototypes. Our leadership reviews designs only in high-fidelity, clickable form with narrated walkthroughs — no lo-fi wireframes, no "imagine this part." You'll run think-aloud walkthroughs of your prototypes in reviews. Own engineering handoff end-to-end. Specs, redlines, tokens, states, and motion notes for our engineering team (US + China-based vendor) — then review what ships against what you spec'd. Partner with marketing and engineering. Campaign and promo experiences with marketing; feasibility, handoff, and build QA with engineering. Proactively find improvement areas. Use PostHog funnels, app store reviews, and support themes to identify friction and propose fixes — human-centered, evidence-backed, and sized for a lean team. (Optional growth path) If you have product-coordination instincts, there's room to pick up light PM support over time: helping groom the backlog, tracking release checklists, coordinating with our vendor team. What We're Looking For Must-haves: Exceptional high-fidelity Figma craft — components, variants, auto-layout, interactive prototypes. Portfolio required; we will look at spacing, states, and typography, not just hero shots. Design-to-engineering handoff experience — you've delivered specs that developers built from directly and stayed engaged through build QA. AI-native workflow — you use AI tools (Claude, Figma AI, Midjourney, v0, or similar) in your daily work and can show how you refine AI-generated output rather than starting over. This is a core hiring bar. Consumer mobile app experience — you've shipped designs in live iOS/Android apps, ideally with measurable engagement or conversion outcomes. Engagement/monetization design experience — notifications, lifecycle nudges, subscription or commerce touchpoints, feature-gating. Clear, concise written communication — much of the collaboration is async and written. Strongly preferred: IoT / smart home / companion app experience (Tuya ecosystem a plus). Analytics-informed design — you've used PostHog, Amplitude, or Mixpanel to find problems and measure your fixes. Health/wellness-style data storytelling (think Whoop, Oura, Apple Health) — turning sensor data into scores and narratives people check daily. Experience working with offshore/vendor engineering teams. Product-coordination experience (backlog, release checklists) — a plus, not a requirement.
