Project Description: We are looking for an experienced interior book designer and formatter to prep our upcoming historical novella for publication. The project combines a historical narrative with original painting spot illustrations. We need clean, print-ready files prepped for publication on major self-publishing platforms (both paperback and hardcover formats). Project Overview: - Genre: Historical Fiction / Illustrated Novella - Trim Size: 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches (Digest Size) - Page Count Estimate: Approx. 130 to 150 pages across 13 chapters - Interior Style: Elegant, classic 19th-century volume aesthetic (wide margins, intentional drop folios/headroom at the start of each chapter) - Artwork: 13 color spot illustrations (one opening headpiece/vignette per chapter) - Outputs Needed: Print-Ready Interior PDFs for Paperback and Hardcover, plus a reflowable ePub file for e-readers. Key Responsibilities: - Establish a master typography and margin grid (0.75 inch outer margins, proper 0.875 inch gutter for bound spine). - Position 13 color spot illustrations centered at the head of each chapter. - Ensure all artwork passes print pre-flight requirements (300 DPI, zero low-resolution flags). - Create consistent front and back matter (Title Page, Copyright, Dedication). Requirements: - Proven experience formatting books for major print-on-demand platforms. - Mastery of Adobe InDesign or Affinity Publisher. - Ability to meet a firm summer production deadline.
