New York Accountant

Title: New York–Based Accountant/CPA — Payroll, QuickBooks, and Monthly Financial Reporting We are seeking an experienced New York–based accountant or CPA to advise our company on hiring and paying employees in New York and to support our ongoing accounting and monthly financial reporting. This will initially be a consulting engagement, with the possibility of ongoing monthly work. We need someone who can establish compliant payroll and tax processes, maintain accurate books in QuickBooks, and explain our financial and employer responsibilities clearly. Responsibilities include: - Advising on the tax and payroll implications of hiring employees in New York - Helping us register with the appropriate federal, state, and local agencies - Reviewing federal, New York State, and New York City payroll-tax requirements - Advising on employee tax withholding and required employer contributions - Providing guidance on unemployment insurance, disability benefits, Paid Family Leave, and workers’ compensation requirements - Helping distinguish employees from independent contractors for tax purposes - Reviewing or recommending payroll providers and procedures - Identifying required filings, payment schedules, deadlines, and year-end forms - Maintaining accurate records in QuickBooks Online - Categorizing and reviewing monthly transactions - Reconciling bank, credit card, payroll, and other balance-sheet accounts - Completing the monthly close and identifying errors or unusual transactions - Preparing monthly financial statements, including the profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash-flow statement - Providing clear monthly explanations of financial results and cash position - Advising on recordkeeping, payroll-tax compliance, and accounting best practices - Coordinating with employment counsel when a matter requires legal advice - Providing ongoing support as new employees are hired Qualifications: - CPA, Enrolled Agent, or experienced accountant with substantial New York payroll-tax knowledge - Demonstrated experience advising businesses that employ people in New York State and New York City - Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online - Strong experience completing monthly closes, reconciliations, and financial statements - Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll taxes and employer registrations - Familiarity with New York unemployment insurance, Paid Family Leave, disability benefits, and related employer obligations - Experience working with small or growing businesses - High attention to detail and the ability to meet monthly deadlines - Ability to explain complex tax and financial information clearly - Professional liability insurance is preferred - QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification is a plus When applying, please include: - Your professional qualifications and location - A brief description of your experience with New York employers - Details about your QuickBooks Online experience - Examples of similar payroll, bookkeeping, and monthly reporting engagements - A sample list of the monthly financial reports you normally provide - Your hourly rate or proposed monthly fee - Your availability for an initial consultation - Whether you can provide both ongoing bookkeeping and payroll-tax compliance support We are specifically looking for someone with hands-on New York employer, payroll-tax, QuickBooks, and financial-reporting experience—not solely a general bookkeeper.
