Only freelancers located in the U.S. may apply.U.S. located freelancers only
We are a Connecticut-based structural steel and miscellaneous-metals fabrication/welding contractor seeking an experienced Northeast U.S. commercial steel estimator for **final bid-pricing reviews**. ### Role This is **not a takeoff or full estimating assignment**. Our internal team completes the quantity takeoff, drawing/specification review, scope analysis, exclusions, proposal development, and initial estimate before the project reaches you. Your role is to review the completed estimate from the perspective of an experienced Northeast steel estimator and help us determine whether our **final submission price is commercially realistic and competitive**. We are specifically looking for judgment based on actual experience pricing structural steel and/or miscellaneous-metals packages in **Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, or comparable Northeast markets**. ### Initial Trial Project The first assignment is a miscellaneous-metals package for a senior housing project in **Greenwich, Connecticut**. Approximate scope includes: * 199 LF of stainless-steel stair guardrails * Horizontal stainless infill at one stair * Vertical stainless balusters at two stairs * Carbon-steel metal-pan stair * Two stringers * 16 tread/riser pans * Approximately 53 SF of landing pan * Prevailing-wage field installation * Delegated engineering and attachment allowances Our current working bid is approximately **$151,900**. We will provide the completed internal estimate, takeoff, markups, and relevant drawings/specifications. We are **not asking you to recreate the takeoff or rebuild the estimate from scratch**. ### Required Deliverable After reviewing our estimate, provide: * Expected competitive bid range for this package in the Northeast market * Your recommended final submission price * Approximate percentage our price is above or below your expected market midpoint * Any concerns with our shop labor hours/productivity * Any concerns with our field labor hours/productivity * Material, subcontractor, allowance, markup, or contingency concerns * Overall confidence level in your recommended range * Brief basis from comparable CT, NY, NJ, New England, or Northeast structural/misc-metals work you have priced We care more about **experienced commercial judgment than producing another spreadsheet**. ### Experience Required Strong candidates should have direct experience estimating for a structural steel fabricator/erector, miscellaneous-metals contractor, or comparable commercial steel operation. Experience with the following is particularly valuable: * Structural steel and miscellaneous metals * Stairs, railings, guards, and metal-pan stairs * Stainless-steel fabrication * Shop fabrication labor * Field erection/installation labor * Prevailing-wage projects * Northeast U.S. commercial construction * Fabricator markup, overhead, contingency, and competitive bid positioning ### Trial & Ongoing Work This is a **fixed-price $175 trial assignment**. For this first project, we need the review completed **Friday morning, August 14, 2026 (Eastern Time)**. If the relationship works well, we intend to use the estimator for recurring, fast final-price reviews on future structural steel and miscellaneous-metals bids. When applying, please briefly describe: 1. Your structural steel/miscellaneous-metals estimating background. 2. Which Northeast markets you have personally priced work in. 3. Whether you have estimated directly for a steel fabricator/erector or miscellaneous-metals contractor. 4. Examples of the approximate dollar range and type of steel packages you have priced. 5. Whether you can complete the initial review by Friday morning. **Please do not apply if your primary experience is quantity takeoff only. We are specifically seeking an experienced steel estimator who can evaluate labor productivity, regional costs, markup, and final market competitiveness.**
