What we're doing We are an AI transformation and custom development firm in Indianapolis. We're finishing an Odoo ERP implementation for a manufacturing client and have a handful of modules left to land in the next 2-3 weeks. Our engineering team can build anything the client needs. What we want is someone who knows Odoo cold and can tell us when we shouldn't build at all. Half the value here is you saying "that's already in Inventory, you just need to turn on the operation type" and saving us a week of custom work. What you'll actually do - Walk our team through how the remaining modules work out of the box, what they do well, and where they get brittle - Lay out the tradeoffs on each open decision: configure it in standard Odoo, extend it, or handle it outside the system - Explain how the modules hand data to each other so we don't design ourselves into a corner in week three - Sit in on client working sessions and translate what they're asking for into how Odoo actually behaves - Push back on client requests that would create upgrade debt, and give them a workable alternative - Train client staff on the UI: where to click, what each screen does, how to run their daily flow without calling us - Help us write the short internal docs and SOPs the client will keep after we're gone You will not be implementing. We have engineers for that. You're the person who tells them what to build and, more often, what not to. We need you to know Odoo as a tool when asked specific questions. Not have to go back and ask Claude. Time commitment - Roughly 10 hours of onboarding in the first week to get up to speed on the client, the build so far, and the open decisions 5-10 hours per week after that, split between design conversations with our team and occasional client-facing sessions - Meetings land during US business hours. Async work is on your schedule. What we need you to have - Several full Odoo implementations you took from scoping to go-live, ideally including at least one manufacturer - Deep working knowledge of the standard modules and their config surface: Manufacturing, Inventory, Purchase, Sales, Accounting, Quality, Maintenance, and Studio - A real opinion about the line between configuration and customization, and scar tissue from getting it wrong Experience with Odoo 17 or 18 (tell us which versions and whether it was Odoo.sh, on-prem, or Online) - The ability to sit with a non-technical operations person and teach them the interface without making them feel dumb - Clear written communication. A lot of this job is turning a messy client request into three sentences our engineers can act on. Nice to have - Discrete manufacturing background: BoMs with variants, routings, work centers, make-to-order versus make-to-stock - Experience migrating a client off spreadsheets or an aging ERP - Data migration and import cleanup Who this isn't for - Agencies looking to take over the build.
