Offline Android tablet app — Bluetooth scanner, kiosk mode, no backend (fixed-price)
Worldwide
This is a deliberately specific job and most Android developers are not the right fit. If the constraints below are your comfort zone, we’d love to hear from you. What we’re building A fully offline Android tablet app that tracks physical items — access cards, keys, pagers — at a busy hospital reception desk. Items and people carry QR codes; a Bluetooth scanner gun reads them; the app records who has what, flags items that are overdue, and exports reports to a USB stick. It must be rock-solid and fast under pressure. Boring reliability beats flashy UX here. Hard requirements (please don’t apply unless these are comfortable) • Native Android, offline-first — no backend, no cloud, no internet at runtime. Local database (e.g. SQLite) is the single source of truth. • Bluetooth scanner gun handled as HID keyboard input — scans captured without the user tapping the screen first. • Kiosk mode (locked single-purpose foreground). • USB sideload install — no Google Play, no network to deploy. • Must run reliably on battery, fully offline. You’ll be a strong fit if you’ve built Point-of-sale, kiosk, warehouse / inventory, ticketing, or other barcode/scanner-driven offline apps. That experience matters far more here than consumer-app or web background. Please point us to one relevant project. The work We have a detailed, fully-resolved specification ready (shared under NDA with shortlisted developers). The requirements are settled — this is a clean implementation job, not a figure-it-out-as-we-go job. Scope is a defined ‘trial MVP’: a core scan loop, item/person registration, overdue alerts, an admin settings panel, and USB report export. One tablet, one scanner, one local database. Terms • Fixed-price, milestone-staged. We’ve left the budget open deliberately — tell us your fixed-price quote and rough timeline for the trial MVP scope above. A quote that engages with the actual scope tells us you’ve read it. • Work-for-hire — all code and IP assigned to us, agreed in writing before work begins. • A small paid test task may precede the full contract, so we can see the core working before committing. • Successful delivery is likely to lead to further, larger work (a multi-site rollout). To apply — please answer this, or we won’t read further In one short paragraph: a Bluetooth scanner gun behaves as an HID keyboard. How would you make sure the app captures every scan reliably without the user tapping the screen first — and how would you handle two scans arriving in quick succession? Proposals that don’t answer this specific question will be declined automatically. We’re using it to find people who’ve actually done this kind of work. A short, plain answer from real experience is exactly what we’re looking for — no need for a long pitch.
