PCBA Schematic and Layout for Battery-Powered Handheld Scientific Instrument

Summary

We are searching for experienced electrical engineers to perform schematic capture and/or layout of a motherboard for a handheld scientific instrument. The motherboard will include a Raspberry Pi 5 compute module, a battery management and power supply system, an STM32 microcontroller, two sockets for 14-pin butterfly package lasers, and a variety of low-speed analog signal conditioning circuits to interface the lasers with the DACs and ADCs on the microcontroller. The instrument will have a tablet-like form factor with a 10" touchscreen. The project will be divided into two separate phases. In phase 1 we will build a functional prototype of the entire system without strict mechanical constraints. The STM32 microcontroller will be on a Nucelo development board and the Raspberry Pi 5 compute module will be on a separate off-the-shelf breakout board to avoid the need for fine-pitch connectors and high-speed routing of DSI and other signals. You will handle the PCBA design, and we will order it, bring it up in our lab, and write the necessary firmware and software. Once the phase 1 board is working, we will move to phase 2 where any necessary rework or redesign is incorporated, and the entire design is condensed onto a single PCB with a compact form factor. In phase 2 the STM32 microcontroller and Raspberry Pi 5 compute module will be on a single PCBA with everything else. We are searching for candidates who can do both the schematic capture and layout, or just schematic capture, or just layout.
