Podcast & YouTube Producer/Editor for Top Health-Science Show (Part-Time, Long-Term)

Summary

The Role You will own post-production and production workflow for two connected but distinct channels: **1. The podcast (Your Brain On...)** - Weekly long-form episode, 50-90 minutes, recorded on Riverside - Audio and video edit, mix, and publish-ready delivery **2. The YouTube channel (The Brain Docs)** - A weekly original 12-20 minute show. This is not a repost of the podcast. It is its own format, sometimes an offshoot of a podcast topic, sometimes fully original, built for YouTube search and retention - Thumbnail production and title/packaging input - Channel hygiene: chapters, descriptions, end screens, playlists **3. Short-form clips (both channels feeding Reels, Shorts, TikTok)** - Multiple clips per week cut from both the podcast and the YouTube show - Burned-in captions, platform-native formatting, hook-first editing **4. Production management** - Own the weekly production calendar in Notion - Manage the pipeline from raw recording to published asset with a turnaround of one week or less - Coordinate with our producer and team via Slack - Flag bottlenecks before they become misses You will also have a voice in the room. We want your input on titles, thumbnails, hooks, and format experiments. You pitch, we decide. Final editorial say always rests with the hosts. ## Weekly Deliverables - 1 podcast episode fully edited (audio + video), 50-90 min - 1 YouTube show episode fully edited and packaged (12-20 min), including thumbnail - 4-6 short-form vertical clips with captions - Publish-ready uploads with titles, descriptions, and chapters staged for approval - A short weekly status update in Notion/Slack: what shipped, what's in pipeline, what's blocked ## Who You Are **Required:** - 3+ years editing podcasts and YouTube content, with a portfolio of published work you personally edited - Proof of growth: at least one channel or show you worked on where you can show before/after numbers and explain what you did to move them - Expert in **Descript**. This is our edit environment and it is non-negotiable - Experience with Riverside source files - Comfortable working inside **Notion** and **Slack** as your daily workflow tools - Strong English fluency. You will be writing captions, titles, and descriptions that our team reviews - Experience with health, science, or education content, and an understanding of why accuracy matters in this niche. Our captions and titles can never overclaim what the science supports. If you cut a clip that makes a stronger claim than the full episode made, that is a fireable error - Reliable weekly availability and a one-week turnaround on full episodes **Strongly preferred:** - You understand YouTube packaging: retention curves, thumbnail psychology, title/thumbnail testing - You have grown short-form accounts and can speak to hook construction and completion rate - You have worked with physician, scientist, or expert creators before - Thumbnail design skills (Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent) **Not required:** - A science background. We handle the science. You handle making it watchable. ## Compensation Structure - Months 1-3: flat monthly retainer in the stated range, scoped to the deliverables above - Month 4 onward: base retainer plus a bonus structure tied to agreed KPIs (YouTube subscriber growth, watch time, clip performance, episode completion rate). We want a partner who benefits when the channels grow ## The Hiring Process 1. **Application** (see instructions below) 2. **Short video call** with our team 3. **Paid test project ($150):** we send you one raw episode. You cut 3 short-form clips with captions, propose titles for each, and deliver one thumbnail concept for the episode. We are running this test with our top two candidates head-to-head. Best work wins the contract 4. **90-day ramp** at the base retainer, then KPI review ## How to Apply Applications that ignore these instructions will be declined without review. 1. Start your application with the word **SYNAPSE** so we know you read this posting 2. Link 3 pieces of published work **you personally edited**, and for at least one, tell us the specific result it drove (views, retention, subscriber growth, downloads) 3. Watch any one of our recent videos on The Brain Docs YouTube channel and tell us, in 3-4 sentences, one specific thing you would change about its editing or packaging and why. Generic praise does not count 4. Confirm your Descript proficiency and your weekly availability 5. Do not send an AI-generated cover letter. We read every application, and we can tell. Short, specific, and human beats long and polished We are looking for a long-term collaborator, not a gig. The right person will grow with us through a major book launch and beyond.
