Power BI & BigQuery Data Analyst — Client Dashboard Build (Contract)

Job Title: Power BI & BigQuery Data Analyst — Client Dashboard Build (Contract) Overview Service Squared is a professional services firm supporting 800+ franchise, restaurant, retail, and service-based business locations across 41 states. We are looking for an experienced Power BI and BigQuery specialist to build out a series of client-facing dashboards and databases — approximately 5 to 10 builds to start, with the potential for ongoing work. This is a contract role. We are not looking for a generalist. We need someone who can look at raw, messy data from point of sale systems and accounting software and extract meaningful, measurable KPIs with minimal hand-holding. If you need a fully structured dataset handed to you before you can build, this is not the right fit. What You Will Be Doing You will be building Power BI dashboards for a diverse set of clients including restaurants, gyms, mental health clinics, and other service-based businesses. Each client has defined metrics they want to track. Your job is to go into their raw data and build those metrics correctly. That means things like: identifying the most popular class times and instructors at a gym, breaking down sales by product type or membership vs. package, evaluating front desk performance, or surfacing the right financial KPIs from accounting exports. The data tells the story. You need to know how to find it. You will also be responsible for setting up the full data pipeline, including getting data out of point of sale systems, loading it into BigQuery, and setting up auto-refresh connections so dashboards stay current without manual intervention. Non-Negotiable Requirements — Do Not Apply Without These Microsoft Power BI: advanced, hands-on experience building production dashboards Google BigQuery: heavy, working experience — not theoretical DAX: extensive experience writing DAX measures from scratch; this is core to how we build SQL: you must be comfortable writing SQL as part of the build process Measures over filters: we do not build our dashboards off of filters; everything is built using measures and DAX; if your default approach is to filter, this is not a match Data extraction from point of sale systems: you must have real experience pulling raw data out of POS systems and structuring it for analysis BigQuery auto-refresh setup: you must be able to configure live or scheduled data refreshes from BigQuery into Power BI POS system transitions: you must have experience bridging data between legacy and new point of sale systems, ensuring continuity in reporting across the migration Row-level security (RLS): you must be able to configure role-level security in Power BI for multi-client environments Cross-industry experience: you must be comfortable working across different business types and building KPIs that are specific to each industry's data structure Strongly Preferred Experience working with accounting software exports (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) Familiarity with franchise or multi-location reporting structures Experience building dashboards where the audience is an owner or operator, not a data team Our Process We take contractor selection seriously because our clients trust us with their data.
