The selection process involves 2 Zoom calls as needed. ________________________________________ 1. Who We Are We are an Australia-based healthcare technology initiative building digital tools that support wound care in aged-care facilities, hospitals, and home-nursing contexts. We already have a working relationship with an established offshore development vendor on a broader wound-management platform, and we are now looking to run a fast, independent, low-cost proof of concept with a specialist freelancer or small team who has already built (or can demonstrably build) AI-based photo measurement tools. This is not a theoretical R&D exercise — we want to see a genuinely working app within days, not a deck of slides. If you have shipped anything involving photogrammetry, wound/skin imaging, AR depth sensing, or medical/dermatology measurement apps, this is the job for you. ________________________________________ 2. The Problem We Want Solved Clinicians and carers currently measure wounds manually with a paper ruler pressed against the skin — a process that is inconsistent, hard to document, and impossible to compare reliably over time. We want an app that lets a caregiver take a single photograph of a wound on a phone and have the app automatically return: • Length (longest axis, in mm/cm) • Breadth / width (perpendicular axis, in mm/cm) • Depth (estimated wound depth/volume indicator, in mm) • A visual overlay showing the detected wound boundary and the measurement lines drawn on the photo • A simple, exportable report (PDF or on-screen) showing the three measurements, a confidence indicator, and the date/time of capture and a medical report describing the wound. This can be generated using AI tools and publically available information. See sample report This should work as a native or cross-platform mobile app installable directly on both Android and iOS (a TestFlight/App Store-style build for iOS and an APK or Play-Console build for Android are both acceptable, as long as we can install and test it ourselves on real devices). ________________________________________ 3. Why This Is Technically Interesting (and what we expect you to already know) We are aware that length and width from a 2D photo are a reasonably solved problem (edge detection / segmentation + a size reference), but that depth from a single 2D image is the hard part. We want your proposal to explicitly address how you intend to solve depth — for example, one or a combination of: • Using the phone's native depth sensors (e.g. iPhone LiDAR/TrueDepth via ARKit, or Android's ARCore Depth API) where available, falling back gracefully on devices without them • A stereo or multi-angle capture approach (e.g. two or three photos from slightly different angles) reconstructed via photogrammetry • A calibrated reference-object method (e.g. a small sticker or card of known size placed near the wound) combined with segmentation and shading/shadow-based depth cues • Any other approach you have used successfully in a prior project We do not want to lock you into one specific approach before you bid — we want to see your recommended method, and your reasoning, as part of your proposal. Whatever you propose must still result in a legitimate, working, testable measurement, not a rough guess. We have attached, for reference and inspiration only, a detailed technical proposal we separately received from another vendor for a related AI wound-assessment tool (covering detection, segmentation, classification, and clinical reporting). You are welcome to borrow ideas from its architecture (e.g. YOLO for detection, U-Net for segmentation, image-quality pre-checks) but you are not required to follow it — your own tech stack and approach are welcome, provided it works and is fully yours to build with tools you already have access to. ________________________________________ 4. Important Cost Constraint — Please Read Carefully We are not in a position to fund new paid tools, licenses, cloud infrastructure, or third-party API subscriptions at this stage. You must build the Phase 1 POC using: • Your own development environment, licenses, and templates • Open-source or free-tier AI/ML models and libraries • Your own test devices, or free/low-cost emulators, for initial testing If there is a specific, unavoidable cost we would need to bear (for example, a paid API for depth reconstruction, a specific SDK license, or cloud GPU time for training), you must call this out explicitly and separately in your proposal, with the approximate cost and why it's necessary. Do not bake hidden costs into your bid — flag them upfront so we can make an informed decision before work starts. ________________________________________ 5. Phase 1 — Proof of Concept (Budget: USD $1,000, ~1-2week) 5.1 Scope • A working mobile app (Android + iOS installable build) that: o Lets the user take or upload a photo of a wound o Detects and segments the wound boundary automatically o Calculates and displays length, breadth, and depth o Displays the measurement overlay on the photo o Runs end-to-end without crashing, on real hardware, on both platforms • A short written explanation of the technical approach used, especially for depth estimation • A first round of testing performed by you (the vendor/freelancer) before it is handed to us — we expect a tested, working build, not a "please debug this with me" handover • We will then run our own round of testing and validation once your round is complete 5.2 Success Criteria (Payment Condition) This is a success-based milestone. Payment of the $1,000 for Phase 1 is contingent on the app: 1. Installing and running on both an Android and an iOS device 2. Producing length, breadth, and depth measurements from a real wound photograph (or a suitable proxy/simulated wound if real wound images are not yet available) that are plausible and repeatable 3. Passing your own first-round test, followed by our validation If the POC does not work as described, we will not make payment for Phase 1. We say this plainly and upfront so there is no ambiguity — we are paying for a working outcome, not for hours logged. We want serious applicants who are confident they can deliver this in the timeframe, not open-ended exploration. 5.3 Deliverables • Installable Android build (APK or Play Console internal test link) • Installable iOS build (TestFlight or equivalent) • Source code handover • Brief written summary of the approach and any libraries/models used • Recording or notes from any working session/demo call ________________________________________ 6. Phase 2 — Full Working Solution (Budget: USD $1,000, ~2 weeks, starts only if Phase 1 succeeds) 6.1 Scope • Refine and productionise the Phase 1 POC into a more complete, usable app • Add version-to-version comparison: the ability to view two or more measurement sessions of the same wound side by side (e.g. "Version 1" vs "Version 2") and see how length/breadth/depth have changed over time — a basic healing-trend view • Proper UX/UI design and wireframes, submitted to us for review and sign-off before full build-out begins • Continued first-round testing by you, followed by our own testing round • Ongoing daily stand-ups and intermittent written project-management updates (see Section 7) Geerate a detailed medical report on the wound and comparison using AI data 6.2 Deliverables • Updated installable builds for Android and iOS • Wireframes/UI designs (approved by us before implementation) • Version-comparison feature, working end-to-end • Updated source code and any documentation needed to maintain/extend the app • Test summary covering both your testing round and issues found/resolved ________________________________________ 7. How We Will Work Together Please do not bid on this project if you cannot commit to the following — they are not flexible: • Daily stand-up call is mandatory (short, async-friendly on timing where possible, but it must happen every working day) • All meetings should be on Zoom and recorded so we have a shared record of decisions • You test first; we test second. We expect a working, self-tested build handed to us, not a debugging session • Regular, intermittent written project-management updates on progress, blockers, and next steps — even a few lines a day is fine, but we need visibility • All UX/UI decisions must be reviewed and approved by us before you proceed to full build • We work collaboratively and expect the same commitment back — this is a fast-moving, one/two-week engagement, not a slow-burn project ________________________________________ 8. What Happens After the POC If Phase 1 and Phase 2 are successful and the work is of a high standard, there is a realistic possibility of a longer-term ongoing engagement beyond this initial scope — further feature development, scaling the tool, and potentially integrating it into a broader wound-care platform. This will be discussed and negotiated separately once Phase 2 is complete; it is not a commitment at this stage, but we want serious applicants to know the door is open. ________________________________________ 9. What We Need From You in Your Proposal To be considered, please include: 1. Direct evidence of relevant experience — links to apps, repos, demos, or case studies where you have built photo-based measurement, photogrammetry, AR depth-sensing, or medical/dermatology imaging tools. Generic AI/mobile-dev portfolios without a relevant example will not be prioritised. 2. Your proposed technical approach, specifically how you will solve depth measurement from a phone photo, and why. 3. Confirmation you can commit to daily stand-ups and the testing/hand-off process described above. 4. Any specific unavoidable costs (tools, APIs, licenses) that we would need to fund, called out separately and clearly — do not bury these in your bid price. 5. A realistic breakdown of how you'll spend the ~1 week for Phase 1, so we can see the plan, not just the price. 6. Confirmation that you understand Phase 1 payment is success-based: if the POC does not genuinely work end-to-end on both Android and iOS, payment will not be released for that milestone. ________________________________________ 10. Attachments Provided for Reference • A detailed technical proposal previously received from another development vendor for a related AI-based wound assessment and diagnostic reporting tool (covers detection/segmentation/classification architecture, phased delivery approach, and technology stack). Use it for ideas only — you are free to propose your own stack and method. ________________________________________ 11.
