Product Designer
Worldwide
We're a custom fabrication company looking for an industrial designer to explore what our workshop could make and turn the best ideas into real products . We are a Singapore fabrication company (30 staff, full in-house workshop). For years we've built one-off custom work for the commercial interiors industry: acrylic, aluminium, stainless steel, printing, LED illumination. We're now developing original products and rather than dictating what to design, we want a designer who can look at our capabilities, our materials, and our market access, and help us discover what we should be making. This is an exploration-first engagement. You will not be handed a finished product spec. You'll be handed a workshop, a materials list, and a client channel and your job is to find the products hiding in them. Our capabilities (your design palette): - Laser cutting (acrylic), CNC routing and basic metal fabrication - UV flatbed printing, vinyl print & cut, back-printing on clear substrates - LED integration and illuminated construction - Solvent bonding, structural adhesives, standard extruded profiles, off-the-shelf hardware - Materials: cast acrylic, aluminium sheet/profiles, stainless steel sheet, ACP, fabric tension systems - NO injection moulding, casting, or custom tooling for v1 concepts — design for what we own Our market access (design for these buyers): Primary channel: interior design studios and contractors doing commercial office fit-outs Secondary: retail brands, event agencies, property/facility managers, direct corporates Products that a designer can specify into a commercial interior, that carry custom branding on a standardized construction, are especially interesting to us, but we want your ideas, not our own assumptions repeated back You're a fit if you have: - A portfolio with manufactured products in sheet materials (acrylic, aluminium, steel) — things that were actually cut, formed, assembled, and sold, not just rendered - Design-for-manufacture instincts: you think in flat patterns, tolerances, fasteners, and assembly sequence - Experience or strong interest in architectural/interior products: signage, display fixtures, acoustic products, lighting, partitions, POS — products that live in commercial spaces - The strategic muscle to evaluate opportunities commercially (who buys it, why, against what alternative), not just aesthetically Fluent CAD with clean drawing output (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino or equivalent) You're NOT a fit if: - Your portfolio is primarily UI/UX, branding, or unbuilt concept work - You only design for injection moulding / consumer electronics and haven't worked with sheet fabrication - You want a locked brief before you can start, the exploration IS the job To apply, answer these 3 questions (applications without them will be declined): 1) Link to ONE product you designed that was manufactured in sheet materials. Your role, and one thing prototyping forced you to change. 2) Look at our capability list above. Name TWO product opportunities you'd want to explore for a company like ours, and one sentence each on why. (We're testing how you see opportunity, there's no right answer.) 3) Earliest start date and weekly availability.
