Remote Freight Dispatcher for Owner-Operators
Worldwide
About Us Apex Logistics is a truck dispatch service based in [Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota], working on behalf of owner-operators running freight across the lower 48. We are not a broker and we do not own trucks — we operate under limited power of attorney for our carriers, find and negotiate their freight, and run the back office so they can focus on driving. What sets us apart is simple: no forced dispatch, no contracts, and no shaving the rate. Every carrier sees the real rate confirmation before we book. Our carriers stay with us because we treat their truck like our own business, and we're looking for a dispatcher who works the same way. Position Overview We are seeking a dependable, proactive, and experienced dispatcher to manage freight for our growing book of owner-operator carriers throughout the United States. The ideal candidate understands the current freight market across multiple trailer types, can consistently secure profitable loads, negotiate strong rates, minimize deadhead miles, and communicate clearly with both drivers and brokers. This is a long-term role. We start with a paid trial on a small number of trucks and expand as the book grows. Equipment You'll Be Dispatching Dry van (53') Reefer Flatbed and step deck Power only Hotshot 26' box truck / straight truck (non-CDL segment) Lanes are nationwide across all 48 states, with a concentration in Midwest and cross-country OTR freight. You'll be working across multiple trailer types, so the ability to read a load board fluently across equipment matters more than deep specialization in one. Responsibilities Search for and book profitable loads using DAT, Truckstop, Sylectus, and other load boards Negotiate competitive freight rates with brokers and direct shippers — we expect counters, not posted rates Run broker credit and days-to-pay checks before every booking Send the rate confirmation to the carrier for approval before the load is booked — this is non-negotiable in our operation Plan efficient routes to reduce empty miles and maximize revenue per truck Dispatch drivers with complete pickup and delivery instructions Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery Communicate with brokers, shippers, receivers, and drivers throughout each trip Complete broker setup packets, carrier packets, and insurance certificate requests Submit and organize Rate Confirmations, Bills of Lading (BOL), Proofs of Delivery (POD), and required paperwork Document and bill detention, layover, and TONU on every applicable load Resolve appointment changes, delays, and delivery issues Build long-term relationships with freight brokers and direct customers Maintain accurate dispatch records and daily load reports Flag any load showing signs of double-brokering or a spoofed broker identity Ensure compliance with FMCSA and DOT requirements Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of U.S. freight dispatching experience Experience dispatching for owner-operators or small carriers (not just company fleets) Strong negotiation skills with freight brokers Excellent written and spoken English — you will be on the phone with brokers all day Experience using DAT Load Board, Truckstop, Sylectus, or similar platforms Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service Ability to manage multiple trucks simultaneously without dropping communication Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Reliable internet connection, dedicated quiet workspace, and a headset Availability overlapping U.S. Central Time, approximately 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM CT Ability to work independently without constant supervision Preferred Qualifications Existing broker relationships Experience finding dedicated lanes and direct shipper opportunities Knowledge of Midwest and Upper Midwest freight lanes Experience working with new authorities Familiarity with factoring and quick-pay workflows Experience in the box truck / straight truck market Performance Expectations The successful dispatcher should be able to: Consistently secure profitable loads above market average for the lane Minimize deadhead miles whenever possible Keep every assigned truck moving with minimal downtime between loads Return carrier and broker communication promptly during working hours Document detention, layover, and TONU rather than letting it go uncollected Maintain excellent broker relationships and a clean reputation for our carriers Route drivers home on their scheduled reset day — home time is a commitment we make and keep Compensation Please include your preferred compensation structure: Hourly Rate Percentage of Gross Revenue Flat Weekly Rate Hourly Base + Per-Load Bonus Compensation will be based on experience and results. Strong performers move to a larger truck count and a higher structure.
