Research Assistant – Coding Academic Career Records from Public CVs (194 entries)

Summary

Description Overview I'm a university researcher building a dataset on academic career paths. I'll give you a spreadsheet of 194 academics with their current university affiliation, and you fill in their career history from public sources — faculty pages, published CVs, Google Scholar, ORCID, RePEc/IDEAS, university announcements, and news coverage such as appointment notices, departmental newsletters, award write-ups and press interviews. What to record, one row per person Year of undergraduate degree, year of PhD, and year of first academic appointment. An estimated year of birth, worked out from the years in field 1 — not looked up. As a rule of thumb, undergraduate completion minus 22, or PhD minus about 30. Where the CV shows something that makes the rule of thumb wrong — years in industry before the PhD, a career break, a second doctorate, an unusually early or late start — adjust and say why in field 4. If none of the years in field 1 could be established, leave this blank. Please do not search for dates of birth or use people-search sites. Any university other than the one listed where they have held a faculty position, and in which years. A one-line note on how you arrived at the entry, especially where a year is inferred rather than stated outright, or where you adjusted the birth-year estimate. The URL(s) you used. The three years in the first field are the core of the task. If a CV lists a degree without a year, say so. If you can establish the year from another public source — a thesis record, a university announcement, a news article — record it with that source. News coverage is often the best way to date a move between institutions, but where a news article and a CV disagree, go with the CV and note the discrepancy. Leave a cell blank rather than guess; a blank is more useful to me than a wrong year. Everything here comes from published professional records. No contact details are needed — no email addresses, phone numbers or addresses — and no one on the list should be contacted at any point. Deliverable, time and pay A Google Sheet, one row per person. I estimate roughly 10 minutes per entry, so about 33 hours in total. The contract is set at 35 hours × $9.00/hour = $315.00 on completion, plus an additional $85.00 bonus for high-quality work. Deadline: Wednesday, August 19, 2026. What I'm looking for Someone comfortable reading academic CVs, consistent and careful with data entry, and willing to leave a cell blank rather than guess. Accuracy matters more to me than speed — this data feeds directly into a research paper.
