Research Remote Desktop Tools

Summary

I need someone to research and compare remote desktop/control tools for accessing my home computer while I am camping/traveling in remote areas with very limited internet connectivity. The remote connection may be slow, unstable, high-latency, or below 500 Kbps. My priority is being able to operate a normal desktop GUI smoothly while consuming as little bandwidth as possible. Requirements: - TOP PRIORITY: Excellent performance at 100–500 Kbps. - Low latency and responsive mouse/keyboard interaction. - Good image/text quality despite very low bandwidth. - Must handle unstable connections, packet loss, high latency, and temporary disconnections well. - Automatic reconnection after connection drops is highly desirable. - Adjustable resolution, FPS, bitrate/image quality, codecs, etc. - Multi-OS support (Windows/Linux/macOS; please specify exact support). - Permanent free plan or completely free/open-source option. I am NOT looking for a temporary free trial. - Unattended remote access to my home machine without somebody physically accepting the connection. - Secure remote access over the internet. - Modern, practical UI/UX. - Features such as clipboard sync, file transfer, multi-monitor support, remote reboot/reconnect, Wake-on-LAN, etc. are bonuses. - Self-hosted solutions are welcome. Please research at least 5 tools. Do not just copy generic “best remote desktop” lists. For each tool, provide: 1. Official website/GitHub link. 2. Supported operating systems. 3. Free-plan limitations and personal/commercial-use restrictions. 4. Performance and estimated bandwidth requirements. 5. Whether it can realistically operate below 500 Kbps. 6. Behavior on high-latency/unstable connections. 7. Available bandwidth/FPS/quality controls. 8. Unattended-access capabilities. 9. Security/encryption. 10. Advantages and disadvantages. Finally, rank the top 3 options specifically for remote access over extremely bandwidth-constrained internet. Please include sources for important claims. Real-world tests, benchmarks, technical documentation, GitHub discussions/issues, and your own testing are preferred over marketing claims. Budget: $5–$10 fixed price. When applying, mention two tools you believe would be strong candidates for a sub-500 Kbps connection. This is a small research task, so concise but well-researched results are preferred.
